bmxultra.com: What does it mean to take the national series win?

Josh Callan: It’s an amazing feeling taking the overall series win, I have been close a few times in the past it’s it’s great to finally clinch it this year, it’s been a tough year with great competition and a very close series, so it was fantastic to do it with a 2nd at Bathurst thunder down under.

bmxultra.com: How significant is a series win in an Olympic year do you think?
Josh Callan: Winning the series in a Olympic year is great, it’s a nice start to a big year, the series itself is not important in the selection itself but it’s puts me in good position to move into the international season and get some results at SX World Cups and World Champs which are key for selection.
bmxultra.com: It must be a good confidence boost going into tomorrow’s competition?

Josh Callan: Yes it is nice to move into the national champs with a result behind me this year. I love the track which showed on Thursdays race and I hope to move into Saturday’s nationals.

bmxultra.com: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Josh Callan: Finish off the domestic season with nationals than at the end of the month head oversees to follow the international season, there are 3 SX world cups leading up to worlds in the end of May, hopefully getting the results to represent Australia at the Olympics in Rio.
bmxultra.com: You must also be proud of how the Victorian riders are going being the state coach?
Josh Callan: Yeah all the Victorian riders have been in great form, we have had some greats results but also a few bad crashes so it’s kinda been a mix of feeling for everyone. It’s great to take both the elite man and Junior Men categories with Hayden Fletcher also winning the overall. Good luck to all racing tomorrow’s nationals and let’s hope Victoria can get a few more podiums.
bmxultra.com: It must be tough to balance racing at such a high level and coaching at the same time. How do you manage it?

Josh Callan: Yes it can be difficult at times, mainly at the races, supporting the team and making sure everything is organised can be difficult when trying to rest for racing but over the last 3 seasons while I have had both coach and athlete hats on I have been able to adapt to these roles. I have really enjoyed the coaching and helping the next generation get to the next level.

bmxultra.com: Thanks for your time, I’d better let you go, best of luck with your racing tomorrow. We hope to catch up with you soon. Is there anyone you would like to thank?
Josh Callan: No dramas, yeah would be good to catch up. There are many people to thank, my family and friends, my S and C coach Ben Williy, the VIS and BMX Australia for constant support and all my sponsors, Redline Australia, Stealth Electric Bikes, Four Eyewear, Onyx racing products, Another Legacy, michramm industries and BMX international.
