Product Spotlight: Pride Racing Fusion Hubset
Pride Racing, out of France, announced their new hubset last week, the Fusion.
We’d heard a little about it prior to launch, a new light weight hub, with a 6 pawl driver system designed for minimum resistance and tested by the heavy weights of the elite crew on the Inspyre team. It’s great to see innovative companies like Pride coming up with a new product developed in-house rather than just another rebadged version of something already on the market.
Did we mention they are light weight? Take a look at this: 198grams for the 20mm front hub and 298grams for the 15mm rear hub.
Check them out.
Manufacturer’s Description
Why FUSION ?
After more than a decade of developing high-performance components trusted by top-level BMX riders around the world, Pride Racing is proud to introduce the FUSION hub — our most advanced, precise, and efficient hub system to date.
The FUSION is the result of years of rider feedback, real-world testing, and precision engineering. Designed to meet the increasing demands of modern BMX racing, it delivers ultra-fast engagement, minimal friction, long-lasting durability, and an impressively low weight.
As frame and drivetrain standards evolve — and as riders demand quicker response without compromising freewheel smoothness — the development of the FUSION focused on three core objectives:
- Maximize engagement precision
- Reduce drivetrain drag
- Maintain a low weight without sacrificing reliability
Offset 6-Pawl System
At the heart of the FUSION hub lies a robust and intelligently designed 6-pawls drive system.
Each pawl is offset and operates in groups of three, allowing for engagement every 3°.
In practical terms:
- 60-tooth ratchet ring
- 3 pawls engage simultaneously for balanced load distribution
- Quick engagement with reduced stress on each component
- Improved control out of the gate and through corners
This system provides a clear advantage during sprint starts and rhythm sections, where every degree of engagement makes a difference.
Drag Reduction — Maximum Speed, Minimal Friction
One of the main goals in developing the FUSION hub was to minimize rolling resistance, especially during high-cadence, low-load situations that are common in BMX — like warm-up laps, manuals, or fast-flowing sections.
To achieve this, we optimized several key components:
- Use of high-end, low-friction bearings
- Precise tuning of pawl spring tension to reduce internal drag
- A refined ratchet profile for crisp engagement without excess resistance
Why it matters:
A hub with reduced drag spins more freely.
This translates to better speed retention, a more natural, fluid feel, and less rider fatigue over the course of a session.
The difference is especially noticeable during warm-up laps, manuals, or high-speed sections where the wheel turns without pedaling.
High-performance bearings — built for the demands of BMX racing
Standard on the outside, optimized on the inside
While the bearings retain standard external dimensions, their internal geometry has been completely re-engineered.
The ball diameter and raceway profiles have been modified to deliver better performance under lateral loads — typical in BMX use: powerful starts, landings, and explosive sprints.
Durability you can feel from the first pedal stroke
- Increased resistance to side loads
- Reduced wear under heavy forces
- Extended bearing life in real-world race conditions
Reinforced sealing for demanding environments
One side of the bearing features a reinforced seal, offering effective protection against water, mud, and pressure washing.
This design helps extend maintenance intervals while ensuring consistent performance throughout use.
Optimized for 120mm rotors
Unlike many hubs originally developed for mountain bikes, the FUSION hub has been specifically engineered to meet the unique requirements of disc braking in BMX.
One of the most common issues with race disc builds is caliper-to-spoke interference. To address this, the FUSION rear hub has been optimized for use with 120 mm rotors.
This design offers:
- Improved clearance between spokes and caliper
- A cleaner, more efficient disc-to-caliper interface
- Ideal compatibility with modern BMX frames and braking systems
- Reduced risk of rotor flex or rub under heavy braking
Lightweight, without compromise
Despite its precise construction and robust design, the FUSION hub remains impressively lightweight:
- Front ( 20 mm axle ): 198 g ±5%
- Rear ( 15 mm thru-axle ): 290 g ±5%
This makes it one of the lightest BMX race hubs on the market — without sacrificing durability or relying on exotic materials.
Designed to fit all configurations
Because every build is unique, the FUSION hub is available in multiple variants:
- Front hub available in 20 mm or 10 mm with titanium bolts
- Rear hub available in 15 mm thru-axle or 10 mm with titanium bolts
- Available in 28H or 36H versions
- 28H version is only available in 10 mm configuration
- Front and rear hubs are sold separately
