The Supercross BMX X Vans collab shoes, that celebrate 35 years of BMX goodness out of Supercross, have finally been released at 9am California time this morning. I might be a little late to the party this time around, but that’s because it was 2am and you know I need my beauty sleep, but that doesn’t mean I won’t celebrate this launch.

It’s hard to explain the excitement when two of your favourite brands get together for a collaboration. I’ve raced in Vans shoes for 4 decades and into my third decade on a Supercross, these suckers were made for me! When I first heard the news a few months back I expected this to be big but damn Supercross and Vans really nailed it with some iconic looking shoes.

Vans x Supercross BMX Era Shoe

From Skate Shoe to BMX Shoe to Streetwear Staple, with an Emphasis on Comfort

The Era was the first shoe designed by skateboarders, for skateboarders, in 1976. Then guess what? We BMXers took it and ran! The Era was perfect for us. An evolution of our original low-top silhouette, the Era placed an emphasis on comfort and style by debuting our famous padded collar. It was also our first shoe to feature the now-iconic Off The Wall heel tab and remains the shoe of choice for BMXers, skaters, surfers, and creatives worldwide.

When Stevie Van Doren approached us about doing a Supercross BMX / Vans® 35-year collaboration, we chose two shoes, and we knew that the Era had to be one of them. Back in the day, we used to go to the Vans® store in Anaheim, Torrance, or Redondo Beach, and since we couldn’t afford to buy a pair, we would buy just one shoe. The right shoe usually wore out first from using it as a brake since side-pull brakes sucked. So sometimes, we’d end up with mismatched shoes. It became a trend in the early ’80s among us poor BMXers—to have one shoe Red/Blue/Red and the other Gold/Blue/Gold, or a few other color combos that we could put together. Well, Stevie let me bring that into these ERA Supercross BMX / Vans® with the mismatched tongues. One is Red, one is Blue, and of course, there’s the one Bright Yellow Eyelet by the Supercross BMX “95” logo.

What kind of BMX Brand would we be if we didn’t introduce the 35 year anniversary Supercross BMX / Vans® in a youth size. While we could get as crazy as we did on the full size adult shoe, we made it a Mini Me Replica of the Adult version –

The Old Skool was our first footwear design to showcase the famous Vans Sidestripe—although back then, it was just a simple doodle drawn by founder Paul Van Doren. Since its debut in 1977, this low-top silhouette has established itself as an icon in the skate, music, and fashion scenes. From 90s street skaters and punks to current hip hop and fashion legends, the Big Kids Old Skool has consistently been the go-to shoe for creatives who do things their own way.
