Scot Breithaupt “The OM of BMX” has passed away

The BMX world has been rocked with the very sad news that Scot Breithaupt “The OM Of BMX” has passed away at 57 years old.

Scot is the undisputed founder of the sport of BMX. He started the sport of BMX in in an empty lot called BUMS (named after the Bums/hobos that lived there,  but it also stood for Bicycle United Motocross Society) Long Beach California in November 1970. He was just 13 years old.

In 1974, at the age of 17, Scot promoted the Yamaha Bicycle Gold Cup Series which had over 1000 competitors per round. The final round was held at the LA Coliseum and hosted about 16,000 spectators.

There’s no doubt Scot was motivated, driven, organised, entrepreneurial. There’s little he hasn’t done. Track operator, event organiser, promoter, TV presenter, magazine co-founder and professional racer. Scot was also the brains behind SE Racing and many of it’s innovations including the iconic Quadangle, PK Ripper and Floval Flyer.

For the past 15 years or so Scot has been battling cancer. He’d been selling reprints of blue prints, t-shirts, and decals all over the world to try to pay for his treatments.

In March 2014 Scot joined the team at Isagenix, he’d put on weight and started to look healthy again.

Over the years we have spent time working with Scot on projects like the “40 Years of BMX celebrations” and were saddened to hear of his passing.

C-YA Scot and thanks for everything!
