The Passing of Benny Joseph (Crupi)
Crupi Parts, Inc – We are very sad to learn of the passing of a great man; Benny Joseph Sr. Benny was instrumental in making Crupi the company that it is today. When Don Crupi decided to start a BMX racing component company in the early 80’s, he went straight to Benny Joseph and his machine shop in Arcadia, CA to have the parts made. Not only was Benny the original shop to make all of the Crupi CNC machined parts in the 80’s and 90’s but it was Benny’s engineering influence that made the parts as good as they were!
Benny took over the company from Don Crupi in the mid 90’s and then hired me to run it for him in the late 90’s. Many of you may remember Benny at the races as one of the nicest company owners anyone could meet. Benny and I traveled the USA in his favorite toy; his 40ft. Freightliner Truck with the big Crupi on the side as we would take it to many Nationals all over the country in the late 90’s and early into the 2000’s. Benny loved being at the races, meeting all of the BMX community, handing out stickers to the kids and showing off his great BMX parts on the custom displays he made for the races.
I then bought the company from Benny in 2006 but Benny remained a major influence in my life, a great source of advice and just an amazing friend until the day he passed, Saturday the 19th of September. Benny is survived by his 5 children, 15 Grand Children and 5 Great Grandchildren.
Rest in peace my friend: 1936 – 2015
