Time for revenge at UCI BMX SX World Cup #3
Setting things straight in Angelholm, Sweden. Interesting battles expected 15-16 August on new BMX Supercross track.
For the first time the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup will visit Sweden. After a short break, the World Cup season continues in Angelholm for round number three. During the 2015 UCI BMX World Championships in Belgium last month a lot of heated battles took place and now it’s time for a rematch.
World Cup series leader Mariana Pajon (COL) got sent in the boarding by Holland’s Laura Smulders in the semi finals in Zolder and missed out on the finals, thus losing her World Championship Title. Pajon will do anything to avoid a similar situation and can be found up front as soon as the gate drops. But when Smulders gets the holeshot and Pajon is right behind in second, it will be an interesting race till the finish line.
Freshly crowned UCI BMX World Champion in the Elite Women class Stefany Hernandez (VEN) will come to Angelholm wearing her rainbow jersey and has plans to show that she is indeed the fastest girl in the world on a BMX bike. Alise Post (USA) wants to set something straight after leading the World’s main and losing the title due to an unfortunate crash. It’s time for her to win one and Sweden could be it.
The ever consistent Caroline Buchanan (AUS) is always aiming for the highest step on the podium but place two or three keeps the Australian in the hunt for the year-end title. She is currently tied for first place together with Mariana Pajon. Hernandez follows in third with 330 points, 50 less than the leaders.
Also the Men are looking forward to a new stop on the World Cup calendar and the situation is even more dramatic in this class. Australian Sam Willoughby wasn’t thrilled on the elbow he received from David Graf (SUI) in turn two in Zolder. It cost him the Elite Men World Title, that he was hoping to grab for the second year in a row. All eyes are on these two when they line up on the gate in Angelholm together. It can get interesting so say the least.
Liam Phillips (GBR) missed out on a World Title in Belgium but has his mind set on winning the overall UCI BMX SX World Cup in 2015. The Brit will need to be scoring maximum points in Sweden to make it happen. France’s Joris Daudet has shown he’s got the speed by winning the 2015 Time Trials BMX World Championships title last month but it’s a different story when 7 more riders line up on the gate to blast off the 8 meter high starting hill together.
Sweden will welcome riders from all over the world including new World Champion Niek Kimmann (NED). The rider of the Dutch National BMX team won a Junior and Elite UCI World title back to back and is already a threat for the victory this year. In May Niek won the World Cup in Papendal, Netherlands from Lane 8 proving he’s got the power to beat the best riders in the world. Willoughby leads the series over Amidou Mir (FRA) and Kimmann with Phillips and Daudet close behind.
