UCI Supercross World Cup Round 1 at Argentina This Weekend

2016 is a big year for BMX. BMX Racing is included in the Olympics for the third time, and strong rumours suggest it could be the last. Riders will not only be fighting for Supercross points but also for eligibility to compete at the Olympics.

Liam Phillips has won the overall series in 2014 and 2015 but will miss the first round in Argentina. Two times Olympic Champion, Maris Strombergs, is however in the list of starters, there will be no one writing off the Machine’s abilities to get the job done. Two times senior World Champ and two times World Cup Champ, Sam Willoughby, will be leading a strong Australian team that includes giant killers Anthony Dean, and Bodi Turner. Joris Dodet who also has a World Championship and World Cup series win under his belt will be leading a large team of French riders. The Dutch Army’s presence will be felt too, headed up by current World Champ, Niek Kimmann, expect to see a lot of orange in the mix. The USA have one of the largest squads in attendance, headed by Connor Fields, the Red White and Blue crew are bound to make a big impact. Along with Canada’s Tory Nyhaug and a whole bunch of South Americans, it will be very interesting to watch as the action unfolds.

The women’s class has much smaller numbers but will be just as hard fought with the likes of Mariana Pajon, Stefany Hernandez, Alice Post, Felicia Stancil, Laura Smulders, Amanda Carr, Caroline Buchanan and Lauren Reynolds. The depth of talent in the women’s class make not only the winners but the finals line up difficult to predict.
