Review: Lead Racewear ULTRA Race Pants

BMX race clothing is a tough market, especially when you consider competing against well established brands like Troy Lee Designs and FOX. The LEAD brand, out of Europe, is a new kid on the block in comparison. It’s been made popular by the likes of Sylvain Andre, Bethany Shriever, Natalia Suvorova, Axelle Etienne and more recently Saya Sakakibara, among others.

Lead’s Ultra race pants are made up of light weight and stretchy fabric, they are designed to be slim fit but have allowance for knee protection to be worn underneath. You can adjust the waist for a custom fit with velcro straps on the waist. They also feature a handy sized front hip pocket, for between motos or when the business end of the day is done.

I went from a loose fit Troy Lee Designs Sprint pant to the Lead Ultra pants. They were both the same size, however since the Lead Ultra pants are a fitted pant I could have got away with going down a size to get that pro look. I like that I got to have a loose fit pant, which is what I’m used to and comfortable with. Even though the LEAD Ultra pants were a firmer fit around the lower leg area the material is so light and stretchy they don’t feel tight, actually they seem to breath well too. One advantage is these pants aren’t likely to get caught in your chain.

Last Words

The LEAD Ultra pant offer the same comfort and freedom of movement of my TLD Sprint pants but with even more stretch and flexibility. There’s plenty of waist adjustment to allow for a custom fit. The black plants are also cool to wear on a hot race day with plenty of air flow. I can see myself ordering another set, or two, soon. I love them, and highly recommend them.

Quality BMX race pants at a quality race pant price.
The LEAD Ultra pants are light weight, and so comfortable you could wear them all day long, even on the hottest of days.
LEAD’s Ultra race pants offer everything you would expect from a premium race pants. The only thing I wasn’t able to test was their ability to stand up to a crash. But I know they stand up to the stringent testing from the CTD guys, and that speak volumes to me.
I like the colour options and the toned down logos on the LEAD Ultra pants. If you aren’t a fan of bold contrasting logos there’s always the Black on Black option.
