Burgtec Penthouse Flat MK5 B-Rage Edition Pedal Review
If you’re looking for a large platform pedal that privides unequalled grip and is built to take a beating then Burgtec’s B-Rage pedal is for you.
Burgtec is a UK based MTB components manufacturer who have been in the game since 2004. They have paired up with some of the best riders in the world to make high end products by riders, for riders. The B-Rage pedal is designed by Freerider Brage Vestavik and it’s a ripper of a pedal. I’ve been keen to check it out for myself since I first saw it.
The B-Rage pedal looks great and is available in a large range of colours, but it’s also packed with features including a large platform, long replaceable stainless steel pins, narrow Q-factor. On top of that it’s full servicable and for a high end pedal it doesn’t have a high end price tag making it great bang for buck.
I know, you’re probably wondering how a pedal made for a freeride mountainbiker would be relevant for BMX racing. It’s simple really, GRIP! The pins on the B-Rage pedal are quite long, and to some they look like they are poised to shred your shins. But for that to happen you would need to slip a pedal. That’s simply is not going to happen. The larger platform will eliminate the possibility of the pedal rolling underfoot like a lot of the smaller platforms do. The size and the design of the pins stick like poop to a blanket. If you plant your foot on a B-Rage pedal you are going to be hard pressed to slip, unless you lift your foot directly off the pedal, and that’s on you.
Manufacturer’s Description
Making Flat Pedals is our absolute favourite. It was the first product Burgtec ever made over 20 years ago and where the love started. The Brage Vestavik pedal was a new challenge, we thought we knew everything, but it turns out you can always learn more.
The way Brage rides pushed us to think about the product in new ways and how we could fine tune it just a little to give him everything he was looking for. The freeride unicorn.
Size or weight was unimportant, it didn’t matter how those numbers stacked up he just needed the right tool for the job. Strength, grip and longevity were the only points on the agenda, and we understood the mission.
Our Penthouse Flat MK5 but bigger and burlier. Brage’s a man who knows what he wants; 2 meetings, 2 sketches, 1 prototype, a tiny bit of tuning, and bam, enter the new MK5 B-Rage Edition.
Brage loved the width and q-factor of the original MK5 so insisted we keep the same dimensions thus not to get hung up or snagged on trail side debris.
The B-Rage Edition adds an extra 12mm of length front to back, this gives us a stomping 112mm x 102mm platform guaranteeing support for the biggest of hits.
Centre pins weren’t something we’d done since the OG Penthouse MK1 20 years ago. Brage felt this larger platform needed extra support in the middle so we added a pad with 3 extra pins for even more grip. The more force you put through the pedal the more grip you’re rewarded with. No limitations. 55ft Jah Drop approved.
Internally the pedal is configured in the exact same way as the MK5, so mud and water ingress are kept at bay while grease is kept in. Longevity is the cornerstone of all the products we make and the MK5 B-Rage Edition keeps that tradition alive so that service intervals don’t interrupt the send.

How do they ride?
I’ll admit I was nervous about racing with them at first, my brain started working overtime and the paranoia of something new and unknown kicked in. The thought of even the smallest chance of a mispositioned foot for an entire race didn’t sound like fun. But once the gate dropped the nerves were gone, it was all business and the pedals did their job, perfectly. Not once did I have any problems with my foot moving on the pedal.
After three months of using the B-Rage pedals I have found them very comfortable and reliable. The slight concave in the pedal body is barely noticable. The pins are long, and kind of scary, while they look like they’d tear holes through the sole of your shoe they don’t, in fact you can’t even feel the pins through thin soled Vans shoes.
