So the new, new office phone number is 02 4334 5915.

About BSX

BSX (Bicycle Supercross) is one-on-one sprint trails style racing on a backyard track built specifically to test a rider’s skills. The short straights, lofty jumps and tight corners are very intense under race conditions but also fun for competitors and create quite a lot of entertainment for spectators. The event provides a unique experience for the local Victorian riders, as well as the interstate and international visitors during an off day of the Track Attack series. The events primary function is to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. In just four years the event has raised approximately $15,000 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.

About the Royal Children’s Hospital

‘The Royal Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and provides a full range of clinical services and health promotion and prevention programs for infants through to adolescents. Each year the Royal Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of children through our Emergency Department, inpatient admissions and outpatient visits. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation plays a vital role in providing additional funding to support important research projects and purchase state of the art medical equipment to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.

22/01 One Bicycles at the 2010 XBR Summer Series – Sydney Australia

ONE Bicycles Australia team press release

(By Miekel Rose)

one_australia_xbr_summer_seriesThis year the One Bicycles Australia Team riders, Nik Rose, Justin Beattie and Mikayla Rose travelled to Sydney to take on a week of intense racing at the 2010 XBR Summer Series. Josh Rose was there to support the rest of the Team, as he suffered a bad break to his left arm prior to Christmas and was unable to compete. I had just built the 2010 ONE Bikes for Josh, Nik and Mikayla days before the event and this was their debut. Mikayla had her Expert frame painted in a hot pink with a blue metallic pearl finish and Nik was riding the new Ultimate ONE frame in Black. Justin was also riding a 2010 expert in black.

The event consisted of 5 rounds at 5 different tracks over 7 days…

Round 1 – Liverpool

Liverpool had provided the riders with a new track for the event. This caused some major accidents with multiple ambulances required throughout the day. The track was technical and challenging and definitely a step towards the future for the Club. The weather was a big challenge too, with soaring temperatures testing all who attended.

Due to lack of numbers in the 10 girls Class, Mikayla rode the Series in 11 girls. She was back racing her rival Bianca Robertson on her home track. Mikayla rode well and managed 2nd places in all the 3 races and a second in the final behind 11 year old Jessica McCormack with Bianca placing third.

Nik had some great competition in his class with W1, Japan 4, 5A and a number of State plate holders. He struggled with his pedals on the day, pulling himself out of the clips in two of the 3 heats, placing a 2nd, 3rd and a 1st. In his final he managed a fourth behind Andy Hughes, Jye Hombsch and Daichi Yamaguchi after some close fast racing.

Justin came out with a purpose and that was to remain undefeated for the day. Justin was a class above his competition winning all his motos and semi and final in a display of aggressive and classy riding. Justin had taken to the new designed track and showed he was a force to reckon with for the Series.

Round 2 – Hawkesbury

The Hawkesbury track looked technical and had recently had some improvements with additional height on the berms and a very technical second and third straight. Another very hot day of racing! We lost the third moto after a major crash brought the event to an abrupt stop when an ambulance was required to take a rider to hospital.

Mikayla was still getting used to the bike and we were seeing if the set up was right. This track has a big start hill leading into a very technical track. Mikayla was a little inconsistent on the day and managed a 2nd, a 1st and a third in the 4th moto giving her 2nd overall on the day behind Bianca Robertson.

Nik was also having a inconsistent day getting 4th in his first race, an amazing win in the second race beating W1 Andy Hughes and a disappointing 7th in the final after a massive crash in the final straight with his good mate Steven Henderson. Both boys finished the race sore and dusty. Nik was very bruised that night and for the remainder of the Series.

Justin was once again on fire, showing his competitors a clean set of heals all day. Justin powered through his two motos winning comfortably. He also managed a win in the Semis and took out the final in a great race against his rival Cooper Pozniak. Justin had continued his quest to conquer the Series.

Round 3 – Manly

Our first race under lights and this round was compulsory to race on flat pedals. The night was a challenge for a number of riders who normally race on clipless pedals. This was also an opportunity to step back in time and watch some old school bikes circulate and then the race of the sidehacks. Boy that brought back some memories!

Mikayla really struggled on the flat pedals and seemed to be right out of her comfort zone, only managing a 3rd, 4th and a 2nd before a 3rd in the final. It made her realise that she needed to train more on the flat pedals to get her pedalling technique and power delivery better on the new bike. We also realised that we needed to reduce the bars on the bike as she was struggling to get pump through the setup we had. This round was great for some learning for us both.

Nik was having a ball but still a little sore after his big crash at the previous round. Like Mikayla it had been a long time since he had raced on flat pedals. Nik raced hard and proved his versatility getting a 2nd and two 3rds and racing hard for a 3rd in the final behind W1 and Japan 4.

Justin too was having a ball and proved he was no slouch on flats. He had been riding his new jump bike a bit before the event and this came in handy on the night with Justin managing two 1st places before a second in the third moto. Justin came out in the final and blew his competition away winning ahead of Saya Sakakibara who was racing hard against the boys as she always does. Notch up another round for Justin in 11 boys.

Round 4 – Macarthur

Another night event under lights. The Macarthur track was well prepared on the night and the threat of rain saw a well oiled machine go in to work to ensure we didn’t have a repeat of the 2008 State Titles. We did get some light rain in the finals but not enough to dampen the enthusiasm of the event.

Mikayla had her bars changed and that seemed to make a lot of difference to her riding, coming out and winning the first heat of the night. She placed 2nd in the second heat after drawing a wide gate. She then managed another 1st before also winning the final. Mikayla was riding well against the older girls but Jessica McCormack was keeping her on her toes. It was a great battle all week between them.

Nik drew some tough motos and only managed two fourths and a third in his heats. The level of riding in the 12 boys is phenomenal and Nik was keeping the big guns on their toes all night. In the final he also managed a close fourth being beaten by W1, J4 and 5A. Not bad competition and not a bad effort by Nik.

Justin continued his reign of dominance by winning his first two heats easily. In the third heat he was clipped whilst jumping the last jump on the first straight and came down hard smashing his helmet. Justin got up and continued to the line finishing 7th. This accident caused him a black eye, a busted visor and some big bruises, but the lad is tough and came out in the final and finished off winning to complete another victory in the Series.

Round 5 – Castle Hill

Castle Hill is a favourite track for Nik and Mikayla. It is a fast downhill track with some technical sections and the unique downhill last corner section. The weather was perfect for the last event of the Series.  The points were tight. Mikayla was trailing Jessica by a mere 6 points heading in to this event and was a chance to catch and pass her. Nik was on equal third with 5A Jye Hombsch leading in to the event. Justin had a pretty healthy lead going in to the last event and barring another big crash, was going to achieve his goal of winning the Series.

Mikayla came out all guns blazing. She was struggling with the gate but managed the holeshot in the first two races to win them both. She then came second in the next two races behind Jessica. Once again it was tight close racing between the two girls and a great opportunity for Mikayla to push herself against girls older than her. Mikayla ended up coming 2nd overall for the Series and was only 6 points behind Jessica who took out the Series in the 11 year Girls.

Nik was on fire and riding awesome. He loves this track and on his new bike he was flying. He holeshot the first race and was never caught getting a win. In the second race he drew the Japanese rider Daichi who beat him to the line. In his third heat he once again beat his field to the first corner and was never looking back taking another win. In the final he had second pick behind Daichi and chose lane 1. He needed a big gate to get the jump on his Japanese rival and mate Andy Hughes. Andy got a great snap and a great drag race down the first straight ensued, with Andy and Daichi moving over on Nik, forcing him to submit. It was a fast pace race with Andy winning from Daichi and Nik in a close third ahead of Jye Hombsch. Nik’s performance at this track earned him a third overall behind Andy and Daichi. Nik was wrapped with his racing over the week and absolutely stoked to be riding his new Ultimate ONE bike so well.

Justin was too on fire. He looked to be in control of the age group from day one and this track was no different. Justin did not drop a moto all day. He had a great race in his final against 2N Jye Ellis who came unstuck in the second berm to allow Justin to run away with the win for a clean sweep and the Series Champion Trophy ahead of Jye Ellis and Saya Sakakibara.

Once again the ONE Bicycles Australia Team did themselves and their sponsors proud with amazing racing and fantastic results in a great week of racing in a tough Series. The riders would like to thank Shane Jenkins for his ongoing support, Paul at ECI for his devotion to the kids and his belief in them. To Jim Beattie and his wonderful family, for their company and friendship. A massive thanks to Wayne and Rhonda Hughes for putting us up for the week so we could participate in the event for the first time, without them it would not have been possible to do the Series. Another big thanks to Kerry from Straightline Custom Paint for painting Mikayla’s little 2010 Expert the day it arrived and having it ready for her to race. The paintwork is awesome. See ya all again next year!

How to buy One Bicycles products in Australia

If you would like to purchase a One Bicycles frame or accessories in Australia the best way to do so is to head down to your local bike store and place an order. If they don’t know what you are talking about tell them to call Elite Cycle Imports while you wait and place your order there and then. After doing some calculations myself I have found the cheapest way to get One Bicycles products in Australia is through a local reseller.

20/01 Alienation BSX: Time trials

by bmxultra.com

Unfortunately on the day of the Alienation BSX the rain put a stop to using the transponders that XBR had brought along, so we had to go old school and use stop watches. The problem was the rain, if we had run the wiring to the starting mechanism there was a possibility of shorting out the start mechanism, which would have made things difficult. BSX really is a fun day to make some money for charity so we just ran with. For now here’s some times for you. We’ll have a full report soon.

19/01 Alienation BSX: Quick round up

by bmxultra.com

The Alienation BSX is going to be one of those events that people will remember forever. The track was holding up to the weather just fine until about 7am when the rain started hammering down. We put the covers down for a few hours to try to keep things as dry as possible, then managed to get the covers off and get a shortened practice session in and the track seemed to dry up a bit for the time trials. The on and off rain (and sometimes hail) through the day provided plenty of action for the spectators and the riders, the red clay surface was like riding on ice, but still the show went on. What was amazing was the positive vibe despite the rain, the riders enjoyed the conditions and the spectators did too. BSX certainly has a different atmosphere to any other BMX event.

Ziggy Callan returned to BSX to find no other women to compete against, so she took on the Open men and did it in fine style, she made it to the top 8 of 39 riders.

Here’s how the racing panned out once all the mud was cleared

Open Men (39 riders)1. Josh Callan (Redline)

2. Jonathan Hoare (Team Hammer)

3. Luke Madill (GT/Fox)

4. Ryan Henderson

30 & Over Open wheel (14 riders)1. Simon Anderson (GT/Fox)

2. Tony Harvey (HRVfitness.com)

3. Shane Jenkins (bmxultra.com)

4. Paul Tompkinson

A massive thank you for everyone who supported the event.

A detailed report coming soon.

18/01 Alienation BSX: On today!

by bmxultra.com

bsx2010_thumbWell it’s the big day, it’s time for the Alienation BSX.

Gates open at 11am, and practice starts at the same time. Racing kicks off at 1pm and should run through to about 4pm when the auctions start.

It’s going to be an interesting day as Simon Anderson goes for his fourth straight win in the 30& Over open wheel class. In the open men Luke Madill returns to claim his third BSX crown, while last years champion Scott Lacey and last years runner up Kyle Horton have also confirmed they will return to BSX. There seems to be a lot of interest in the women’s class although no one has actually confirmed their entry just yet.

Win, Win, Win!

There are lots of prizes up for grabs today make sure you are here to win. Thanks to Alienation and all of our other partners there are going to be a lot of happy smiley faces when it’s time to head home.

The rain

There’s been a little rain over night, but the BOM says only 1.2mm since 9am yesterday.

That will actually be good for the track once people start riding it. There are no puddles so we just have to hope that the showers don’t come too often and the sun comes out.

We have experienced heavy rain before BSX in the past and it all worked out just fine.

Webcam

If you can’t make it today we will be streaming live, which should start in the next hour or two, maybe later if it starts to rain.

Here’s the link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/alienation-bsx

Admission prices

I thought we had advertised the gate prices before but people have been asking so they look a little like this (oh and there are door prizes too)

$10 adult (14 and over)

$5 children (6-13)

free children (under 6)

$25 family (2 adults and 3 children)

14/01 Alienation BSX: Entry form & new partner Roadside Services & Solutions

by bmxultra.com

There’s only 4 days to go until the Alienation BSX, a Royal Children’s Hospital fund raiser, will be on again on Monday 18 January 2010.
It will be the fifth running of the one on one backyard BMX race.

Don’t forget, BSX is the only race where you can see Olympian Luke Madill in Victoria this month as he attempts to win his third BSX since cleaning up the first two in 2006 and 2007.

bsx2010_thumbEntry form (and track directions)

We have been promissing the entry form for a while, but it’s finally here. Click here to download the entry form which has detailed directions to the track as well.

We will take entries at the bmxultra.com tent (blue roof) at the first two rounds of Track Attack and on the day. We still need an indication of the number of riders who will attend BSX, so if you are planning on coming along please email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know your name, class, and the state you are from. We’ll update the rider lists which is already growing at a rapid pace. Click here to check out the current list. In case you were wondering it costs $30 to race the event and that includes the 2 hours of free riding/practice before the event. You must pay the entry fee to ride the track. The $30 goes to the prize pool of the class you enter. We’d like to see a lot more riders get along to the event, especially female riders, so if the appeal of both BMX Press and XBR magazines covering the event isn’t enough we might have to think up some other incentives, keep your eyes out for that.

Roadside Services and Solutions new silver partner

We would like to welcome Roadside Services and Solutions as a silver partner for the Alienation BSX. Roadside Services and Solutions offer a range of services and products, including signage, installations, graffiti removal, linemarking, maintenance and road side auditing. In fact you will see a number of custom directional signs to help you find your way to the track from the major routes and other products around the track and surrounds on the day.

For more information check out roadsideservices.net.au.

Licences required

All riders should be aware that you need to have a current BMX Australia Open licence to compete at the Alienation BSX.

Webcam

We’d like to get the webcam close to the track again this year, but our super long 80m network cable doesn’t work anymore, if there’s anyone out there who can help out with some rj45 cable please drop us an email to webmaster@bmxultra.com. Either way we will have it runnning, we would just like the people at home to be able to get amongst it too and see as much of the action as possible.

Come on riders

Come on guys, if you are planning on racing on Monday send an email to webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know you are coming. We’ll worry about entry forms and money later (this is not the official list, you can enter on the day). We just need a couple more 30 & Over riders and we should have a round of 16 riders, for the first time ever. We would like at least 2 more female riders to make the racing more exciting for Ziggy and Talia and all the spectators. Also we need 32 men in the Pro Open class to make this as good as it can be.

Working bee/Riding session Friday 15 January

We’ll be putting the final touches on the track and around the yard on Friday 15 January, if you want to drop through and check out the track or you are able to help out we’ll be happy to see you. If you have time for a drive up to the Kinglake area email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know you are coming, we’ll be kicking off at about 10am.

Helmet Cam footage

We got some helmet cam footage of the track yesterday for you to check out. The track still needs some clean up work done, but it’s coming along well.

T-shirt orders

You can’t pre-order t-shirts anymore, the order has been placed. So if you are keen to have a t-shirt put aside it will only be in the sizes that we have ordered. That said there will still be plenty of t-shirts and we also ordered some extra hoddies. If you want to reserve any t-shirts or hoodies please email webmaster@bmxultra.com.

Trophies

BSX has been running for four years so far, the Alienation BSX will be the fifth running of the event, and while riders and the BMX community are still supporting the event we’ll keep it running. We thought we’d add a new element to the event this time around and we now have two new trophies. One for the Pro men and one for the Pro women, some of you might remember that we started off with a trophy for the 30 & Over class in 2009. There will be an additional trophy to recognise the little guys who enter the event to race against their heros and have a bit of fun. The two fastest riders that are under the age of 14 that enter the Pro Men’s or Pro Women’s class will go head to head to have their name etched in the trophy and maybe a couple of other goodies.

BSX2009 DVDs

The BSX2009 DVD is loaded with over 40 minutes of BSX action along with a rockin’ all Australian Poison City Records soundtrack. They are available for $20+ postage. Email webmaster@bmxultra.com for payment details. A great Christmas gift for any BMX fan.

Posters

We are proud to annouce that Alienation will be the BSX2010 naming rights partners. There will be over three thousand dollars in Alienation products only available at the Alienation BSX in January. You have to be there to score the goodies, so mark your diaries and parents should submit their leave forms the fifth running of the BSX is going to be a whole lot of fun.

Volunteers needed

We will also need some new volunteers for administration leading up to the event as well as running the event on the day. Jobs include parking attendants, ticket sales on the gate, taking entries, selling raffle tickets, manning the silent auctions, track maintenance and so on.

Riders

We have already had verbal confirmation that Aussie BMX legend and Olympian Luke Madill
is planning on coming. If you are interested in the event drop us an email webmaster@bmxultra.com to help us determine how many riders to expect, we would need to know what class you would like to ride (Open men, Open women or 30 & Over Open wheel) where you are from (City/State) and your name. Generally we end up with 32 riders in the Open mens class, about 12 in the 30 & Over open wheel and 2-4 Open women. But there is plenty of room for more.

Partnership opportunities

If you would like to be involved in BSX2010 has partnership packages available, email webmaster@bmxultra.com for details. Basically we are looking for donations or products/services for auctions/raffles. 100% of profits raised will go directly to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

by bmxultra.com

There’s only 5 days to go until the Alienation BSX, a Royal Children’s Hospital fund raiser, will be on again on Monday 18 January 2010.
It will be the fifth running of the one on one backyard BMX race.

bsx2010_thumbLuke Madill returns to BSX

GT AA Pro and Olympian, Luke Madill, won the pro men’s class at the first two BSX events, first in 2006, then again in 2007. He will return to Pheasant Creek after a two year absence to reclaim his crown as the king of BSX on Monday 18th of January. It will be the only BMX event he will be competing at in Victoria for January.

G Media new gold partner

We would like to welcome G Media as a gold partner for the Alienation BSX. G Media have been very active in giving back to the community over the years making donations to many worthy causes, including over $76,000 to the Victorian Bushfire Relief Appeal. They caught wind of our little charity event and very generously made a donation of $3,000 that has already gone directly to the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

(Entry form coming real soon now – hopefully by Wednesday)

If you have been looking for the entry form for BSX chances are you haven’t found it, we don’t normally release it until 2 weeks before the event, so keep an eye out, it’s not too far away. We take entries on the day, so don’t stress. 12/01 Tioga powers ahead with the PowerBand

tioga-bmx-PowerBand-S-SpecTioga press release

Los Angeles, CA – Tioga’s relentless determination to develop the fastest race tires available results in the PowerBand – a front specific tire designed to fully capitalize on the well groomed surfaces of today’s race tracks.

The PowerBand shares many of the same design elements with the famed PowerBlock but with extra emphasis on reducing drag and minimizing rotational weight which are more critical to a front tire.  The fast rolling aspect of the PowerBand is obvious.  Harder to see is the improved stability made possible by a combination of the tire’s profile and the width of its center tread band.  Such unique design principles let Tioga engineers adopt a smaller width casing for substantial weight savings, while at the same time enhancing all the important functionalities of a front tire.  The result is a 1.85” PowerBand with performance gains shattering that of wider, heavier tires.

A true difference maker that during testing, Tioga rider Donny Robinson proclaimed the PowerBand “The best front tire I’ve ever ridden” while John ‘The Jackal’ Purse stated “The tire is awesome.  It felt very secure in turns and I increased speed in 50 yard sprints.”  Similar glowing feedbacks from select members of Redline Factory, GHP Factory, SE Racing and Morphine Industries reinforces that for racing on hardpacked, well maintained tracks, the PowerBand is the ultimate choice up front, and when paired with the PowerBlock, this “Power Series” is the fastest tire combo ever released by Tioga.

The PowerBand will be available in February 2010 in one size with either standard or S-Spec trim, as below.

PowerBand 20×1.85”                         PowerBand 20×1.85” S-Spec

11/01 Alienation BSX: 1 week to go and a whole lot more

by bmxultra.com

There’s only 1 week to go until the Alienation BSX, a Royal Children’s Hospital fund raiser, will be on again on Monday 18 January 2010.
It will be the fifth running of the one on one backyard BMX race.

bsx2010_thumbGoodies from ABD

We heard from ABD, BSX2009’s naming rights partner, on Friday. They are keen to help out again and join us in 2010 as a silver partner supplying a bunch of things including grips, t-shirts, a jersey, pedals and a couple of street helmets. We’ll be updating the poster as soon as possible to include those guys.

Entry form

(Entry form coming real soon now – hopefully by Wednesday)

If you have been looking for the entry form for BSX chances are you haven’t found it, we don’t normally release it until 2 weeks before the event, so keep an eye out, it’s not too far away. We take entries on the day, so don’t stress. What we do need to do however is get an indication of the number of riders who will attend BSX, so if you are planning on coming along please email webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know your name, class, and the state you are from.

08/01 Morphine Industries Ends ‘09 at NBL President Cup/Christmas Classic

Morphine Industries press release

The Morphine Industries’ crew hit Louisville to end year playin in the dirt and still believing in the fat man in red.

The weekend started with the President’s Cup on Saturday and our 10X – Richie Dey giving an aerial display by hittin’ the Pro set in practice.  He backed up the skills with a 1st place finish in both class and cruiser to double up in Cups and helping Florida once again take home the top spot.

The Christmas Classic hit the track the following two days with the rest of the Morphine rider’s getting in on the fun.

Master – Tim Dinger adding a little style to the track as usual. On Day 1, He took a lane 7 start in the main with getting pimped in turn one, and turned it into a place on the Podum – 3rd place.  Day 2, started the same with top finishes in motos and returning to the gate in the main.   Making a move for the top spot in turn two, he went low for the pass and got tangled up with a rider.  Can’t win them all, that’s race.  Tim settled for a 7th.

Super Xers – Gavin Lubbe / Jason Larev had a great weekend of racing rollin through motos, but a series of mishaps and bad lanes keep them both out of the main.

17/18x – Talbott Cross coming back from a broken wrist, banged bars in one of the toughest classes in BMX to come up short of the main both days.

15X – Damian Cherepko put on a clinic and routed the field with a perfect on both days taking the top podium spot with track to spare.  The kid is for real.

10X – Richie Dey coming off a President Cup double-header, raced at the front of the class both days.  Day 1, due to a few mishaps, he finished in the fourth spot.  Returning for Day 2, Richie stepped it up and took the deuce in the main to finish the weekend.

It looks like next stop for the Morphine Circus will be Lexington, VA and the Florida State Series race in Jacksonville, FL in Mid January.  We won’t disappoint.

Morphine Industries would like to thank its Factory Team Sponsors; HARO BIKES (harobikes.com), Fly Racing (www.flyracingbmx.com),  Alienation (www.alienationbmx.com), Sinz Racing (www.sinz-racing.com), Rennen (www.rennendesigngroup.com), Tioga (www.tiogausa.com/bmx), Black Crown (BlackCrownBmx.com)

04/01 Graves wins again on the Gold Coast

by bike media

Jared Graves has started off his new year with another bang by winning the fourth round of the National Tour on the Gold Coast. The Beijing Olympian also claimed the previous round. Graves got an early lead and managed to hold off a mid field challenge by World Cup series winner, Sam Willoughby. Graves was chased home by Willoughby and fellow Adelaide rider, Brian Kirkham from Adelaide who finished in second and third respectively.

For Graves to finish ahead of his protégée, Willoughby, was a relief.

“I’ve had a bit to do with Sam. He has all the talent in the world,’” said Graves. “My plan for the weekend was to beat Sam!”

Western Australian rider, Lauren Reynolds finally achieved her first win as an elite rider today. The win served as a confidence boost for the national high performance team member after being unlucky during race finals recently.

Early in the race Reynolds lost some ground but waited until the second straight to take the lead. She managed to stay clear of some cat and mouse action between national champion, Caroline Buchanan and America’s Alise Post. Buchanan claimed second while Post slipped back into third.

“I totally missed my gate. I thought I’d back off a little bit and wait for the right time. That’s what I did and was lucky enough to get the win,” said Reynolds.

Fourth place was claimed by Rachel Bracken from Townsville. Jaclyn Wilson –Thompson from Bendigo placed fifth and retains the elite women’s series lead with Buchanan now second overall.

The Junior women’s was won by Melinda McLeod while Matthew Dunsworth continued his domination of the junior men’s race. McLeod made it into second place in the overall series while Kirsten Dellar leads. Dunsworth maintains his stranglehold over the series.

The next two national rounds will be held in Canberra on 5 – 6th March with the final and seventh round to be held in conjunction  with the national championships in Shepparton in May.

02/01 Graves wins on Gold Coast

by bike media

After crashing in the Beijing Olympic final, Jared Graves has returned to the BMX track with success on his mind and taken out the National Series round on the Gold Coast overnight. The 27 year old from Toowoomba in Queensland dominated a star studded final which included USA’s Daniel Caluag and Japan’s Tatsumi Matsushita. It was the defending national series winner, Brian Kirkham from Adelaide, who lay down the challenge to Graves but Kirkham had to be content with second place. The pressure was too much for fellow Adelaide rider and current world cup series winner, Sam Willoughby, who dominated the heats to finish in fifth place in the final just behind Joshua Callan from Victoria. Caluag placed a respectable third.

The colourful Kamakazi also had a comeback to racing after a break following the Olympics and made it to the semi-finals.

The women’s race was taken out by national champion, Caroline Buchanan from Canberra, while USA rider, Alise Post impressed with second place. Western Australia’s Lauren Reynolds claimed third while Queensland’s Rachel Bracken rode into fourth spot. The junior men’s race was secured by Matthew Dunsworth from Victoria while the Western Australian rider, Kristen Dellar won the junior women’s race.

Champbikx winners were: 16 boys – Bodi Turner (Eastfield, VIC); 16 girls – Madiison Janssen (Nerang, QLD); 15 boys – Kerrod Connors (Nerang, QLD); 15 girls – Macey Gore (Ashmore, QLD); 14 boys – Aaron Nottle (Westside, WA); 14 girls – Jade Parker (Bundaberg, QLD).
