30/11 Team bmxultra.com update – Victorian Championships
by bmxultra.com
The bmxultra.com/One Bicycles team were out in full force at the Victorian State Championships, held at the Frankston BMX track, on the weekend. The track held up well to heavy rainfall.
Scooby Guyers, who travelled all the way from South Australia, kicked off his weekend with a strong third place in the 19-24 Mens cruiser on Saturday. On Sunday he was doing well in the A Pro class but his racing was over when he ended up with a seventh place in the semi final.
Levi Collins, current 25-29 Mens UCI world champion, entered to play with the big boys in the AA class, but the racing and the conditions were a little tough. Levi will be back in top form in no time and ready to hang with the AA’s.
Chase Collins, has been one of the fastest A pros in Victoria these past few months, but has struggled to carry his dominance in the motos through to the finals. Chase made it all the way to the semi finals, only to blow his gate, he finished up with a sixth place and out of the main.
Aaron Rogers, put in a blinder of a weekend on his first title event in bmxultra.com colours. On Saturday he placed seventh in the 30-34 mens cruiser. On Sunday he finished up with a third place in the 30-34 mens class.
Mark Dobson is always a threat in the 40-44 mens cruiser class, in his semi final he found himself battling it out with Craig Walczuk and came off second best. In his own words he was “Wallified” he’d slipped back from third to finish up with a seventh and that was the end of his day.
Kyle Horton has had a great year so far but stuggled in the Elite men’s class at the second round of the Probikes series on Saturday. He got it together on Sunday in the AA Pro class though with some great racing to get him into the semi finals. He went down on the first straight though and it was all over for him for the weekend.
Shane Jenkins competed at his 28th consecutive Victorian State Championships to finish up with a sixth place in the 40-44 cruiser class and a sixth in the 30+ masters class as well.
Jamie Bullows was battling it out with team mate Jenkins for the six spot in the 30+ masters class but had to settle for seventh, this time, he’s already in training for the 2011 season.
Well done to all riders.

30/11 Victorian State Championships

Kirkham crowned Victorian State Champion
Adelaide’s Brian Kirkham took little time in making his intentions clear to make London Olympic BMX team today by winning the DK Victorian State Titles in Frankston. The 24 year old had to reclaim some ground back from Port Macquarie’s Billy Jolliffe (NSW) and Boronia’s Matthew Dunsworth (VIC). A clash of handlebars and a swift move by Kirkham gave him the edge. Frankston’s Olivier Hoarau managed second place reconfirming his Olympic aspirations while Jolliffe claimed third.
“I came out of the gate pretty good,” explained Kirkham, “Billy and Matt were on the inside and I had to shut them down.”
By mistake I left a gap for Tom (Sinmaa) so once I was in front I played it safe and took it to the finish.”
Two days of racing started to take its toll on the off-season rider.
“I felt good yesterday but felt worst today and thankfully I just put it together for the final.”
Kirkham will line up in the first round of the World Cup Supercross soon to be confirmed for either Madrid or South Africa in April.
It was a cat and mouse race for the Pro women’s final when Queensland’s Chelsea King looked to have the medal around her neck until Port Macquarie’s Rachel Jones overtook her on the line. Jaclyn Wilson from Bendigo claimed third.
Out of the 32 state titles claimed today 13 went to Victorian riders including:
Millie Reed from Knox (10 girls); Jaclyn Wilson from Bendigo (30-34 women); Tony Harvey from Park Orchards (30+ men); Brandon May from Knox (A men); Jaden Ride from Southern Eastern (10 boys); David Lyon from Eastfield (15 boys); Bodi Turner from Eastfields (16 boys); Jamie Mahuka from Shepparton (17 boys); Jordan Morgan from Wyndham Warriors (19-24 boys); Gary Morgan from Wyndam Warriors (40-44 men); Nathan Evans from Frankston (25-29 men); Robert Slatter from Sunbury (30-34 men) and Greg Sinmaa from Knox (50+ men).
Kirkham wins Probikes round 2
Even though many BMX riders are too young to vote in the election held today in Victoria there was still plenty of close racing at the DK Victorian Open State Championships at Frankston. Around 800 riders hit the relatively damp track despite heavy rain that has engulfed the state however over the weekend it has not dampened the determination of riders from all parts of Australia keen to claim 49 state titles on offer.
Olympic hopeful, Adelaide’s Brian Kirkham was in top form today in Frankston, Victoria. Victorian pro BMX riders, Joshua Callan and local favourite, Olivier Hoarau, are expected to feature in the DK Victorian finals tomorrow. Gippsland’s Tom Sinmaa has given Kirkham something to worry about after matching his moves today.
Kirkham, currently the third ranked Australian in the world is hoping to maintain that position into the London Olympics in 2012.
“If I can stay there (top three) I should get selected so that’s the aim,” said Kirkham.
I’ve had a pretty pleasing season considering the injuries over the past few years. This last broken bone took a bit longer to get over.”
Over the last three seasons, 24 year old Kirkham has been plagued by injury. His seasons have been interrupted by multiple broken bones including two knuckles, two wrists, both forearms, one scapula and one collarbone. He now hopes his injuries are behind him.
Currently ranked in the top 20 in the world, Kirkham will use the this event to kick start his season in preparation for later international events.
Victoria’s Ziggy Callan will be out to defend her state title however Bendigo mum, Jaclyn Wilson, will most certainly be in the action after defending her cruiser title today..
The sprocket and cruiser events have been run today with Victorian rider claiming a massive 12 of the 16 titles on offer.
Cruiser state title winners are: Mikayla Rose from Tuggeranong (8 – 10 girls); Jaden Rice from South Eastern (8 – 10 boys); Lexi Merrett from Blue Lakes (11-12 girls); Joshua McLean from Sunbury (11-12 boys); James Honey from Shepparton (13 – 14 boys); James Lautier from Sunbury (15-16 boys); Brandon May from Knox (17-18 boys); Kristina Hagberg from Maitland Tenambit (19 – 24 women); Jordan Morgan from Wyndham Warriors (19- 24 men); Simon Anderson from Geelong (35 – 39 men); Adam Kauer from Blue Lakes ( 25 – 29 men)’; Jaclyn Wilson from Bendigo (30– 34 Women); Robert Slatter (30- 34 men); Heather Galley from Frankston )44-45 women); Bruce Morris from Beenleigh (40- 44 men); Steven Ladd from Mildura (45 – 49 men); Greg Sinmaa from Knox ( 50 + men).

24/11 BMX Olympians jet in for inaugural Skin Industries HRV Classic
HRVfitness press release
BMX Olympian and three times Elite Men National Champion, Kamakazi, is heading to
Victoria to take on Australia’s best riders in the inaugural Skin Industries HRV Classic.
The biggest BMX event to hit Victoria is coming on December 12, and will be hosted at Park
Orchards BMX Club in Melbourne’s east.
Australia’s best BMX riders will be vying for a share of a massive $6,000 prize pool, put up by
event sponsor and HRV Fitness founder, Tony Harvey.
Harvey, a former Elite Men National Champion and current Vet Pro National Champion,
established the event to showcase BMX and attract the best riders Australia has to offer.
“BMX in Australia is growing rapidly since the sport made its debut at the 2008 Beijing
Olympics”, said Mr. Harvey.
“We have two members of Australia’s Olympic BMX team competing among a plethora of
home-grown stars”.
Fellow Olympian Luke Madill will be lining up next to Kamakazi, as well as Australia’s two time
UCI Junior Elite World Champion, Sam Willoughby.
“The HRV Classic will give aspiring BMX Olympians the opportunity to race against their
heroes”.
The 2010 Skin Industries HRV Classic is one of the most lucrative race meetings in Australia,
however, it’s not about the money.
“BMX is a sport that caters for male and female riders of all ages and abilities; from
youngsters through to the Elite level riders. So we hope to encourage people of all ages to
jump on a bike and enjoy our sport”.
BMX racing attracts families by providing an activity that all members of the family can
participate in and enjoy.
While still a comparatively young sport, BMX is so popular that Australia are second only to
the USA in rider numbers nationally.
“We hope everyone who enjoys cycling comes down to Park Orchards to see what BMX has
to offer”.
The Skin Industries HRV Classic will be the final major event of the Victorian racing calendar
for 2010.
23/11 BSX2011 update – new partners BMXMAD & KENDA and DVDs
by bmxultra.com
BSX (short for Bicycle Supercross, and is often referred to as Backyard Supercross) is a Royal Children’s Hospital fund raiser. It will be on again on Monday 17 January 2011 (during Track Attack). It will be the sixth running of the one on one backyard BMX race. BSX is the longest running event of it’s kind in the world and draws a large number of competitors from around Australia. The event has pulled a few international visitors and a number of Olympians.
BMXMAD Silver Partners
We’d like to welcome BMXMAD as Silver Partners for BSX2011.
BMXMAD have been big supporters of BSX since it started. Infact you could say they are MAD about BSX! For them it’s a family thing, Bodi and Wade both race at the event and Rod helps out as a volunteer while Karen keeps the wheels turning at the shop.
Look out for some great goodies from BMXMAD, only available on the day.
Check out www.bmxmad.com.au
KENDA Tyres Gate Partners
We’d like to welcome KENDA Tyres to the world of BSX.
They have taken the rights to the lanes on the BSX starting gate for BSX2011.
KENDA have a large range of great BMX tyres to suit any conditions. We’ve checked out the Small Block Eight and the Konversion tyres so far and have been very impressed by both of them.
Make sure you are at BSX2011 to get your hands on some great tyres from KENDA.
Check out www.kendausa.com/en/home/bicycle/bmx
BSX2010 DVDs
We have finally finished off the BSX2010 DVDs and should have some this weekend at the Victorian State Championships.
These things will make great Christmas stocking stuffers
- Recorded in HD
- Over an hour of BMX action
- Great Aussie music from Poison City Records
They are $15 each.
If you would like to pre-order a copy email webmaster@bmxultra.com.
More partners to come
There are more partners to come, which also means more prizes for BSX and more money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
We have been working hard to lock in extra partners for BSX and some big names are still in the pipeline. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements soon.
A new class
There is strong campaigning for a new class for the younger riders at BSX, while we have resisted in the past we are seriously considering it for BSX2011. If you have strong feelings for or against email us at webmaster@bmxultra.com and let us know what you think, we are always open for feedback.
Track Upgrades
Thanks to some awesome friends and family we now have a ram for the BSX starting gate. It should be installed some time over the next few weeks. This means that the gate will be as safe as it could possibly be, we will need less volunteers (so more people can enjoy the racing) and the gate will drop super quick.
We have been making a lot of changes to the track by hand, and the first two straights are faster and more fun than they have ever been. We still have plans for the last half of the track, but are trying to team up with the guys from Dirtz (www.dirtz.com.au) to make it the coolest little backyard track in the world. We are very excited and fingers crossed we can make it happen. If things don’t work out we still have a plan B and the track will still be significantly different to what it is now.
Partnership opportunities
If you would like to be involved in BSX2011 we have partnership packages available now, email webmaster@bmxultra.com for details. Basically we are looking for donations or products or even services for auctions/raffles. 100% of profits raised will go directly to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Naming rights are still up for grabs, contact us for details.
Track updates
The track changes are coming along very well so far, with some tweaks that will make the track faster, and a whole lot more fun and challenging, and there are still a whole lot more to come
If you are able to help swing a shovel, drive a bobcat/dingo or just help ride the track and roll the new changes in then keep an eye out for up coming working bees.
Poster
The 2011 poster for the event has been finalised. It features Luke Madill (left) who won the event in 2006 and 2007 and Josh Callan (right) who won in 2008 and 2010.
As we add partners the supported by area will be updated. So if you are interested in being a part of a very unique event and becoming a partner read the partner opportunities section below.
Go ahead and print it out and put it on your fridge, put it in your bmx club newsletter, put it on your facebook page, whatever, just spread the word.
Volunteers needed
We will also need some new volunteers for administration leading up to the event as well as running the event on the day. Jobs include parking attendants, ticket sales on the gate, taking entries, selling raffle tickets, manning the silent auctions, track maintenance and so on.
Riders
If you are interested in the event drop us an email webmaster@bmxultra.com to help us determine how many riders to expect.
We need to know:
- what class you would like to ride
- Open men
- Open women
- 30 & Over Open wheel
- where you are from (City & State)
- and your name.
Generally we end up with 32+ riders in the Open mens class, about 12 in the 30 & Over open wheel and 2-4 Open women. But there is plenty of room for more.

About BSX
BSX (Bicycle Supercross) is one-on-one sprint trails style racing on a backyard track built specifically to test a rider’s skills. The short straights, lofty jumps and tight corners are very intense under race conditions but also fun for competitors and create quite a lot of entertainment for spectators. The event provides a unique experience for the local Victorian riders, as well as the interstate and international visitors during an off day of the Track Attack series. The events primary function is to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. In just five years the event has raised approximately $22,000 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.
About the Royal Children’s Hospital

22/11 SE’s Javier’s Retirement from AA Pro/Elite. Watch Out Vet Pro Class!
SE press release
After many years of competing at the AA Pro/Elite level, Javier Colombo has decided to move into the Vet Pro class for the 2011 race season at 32 years of age. Our Argentinian distributor (www.lirasport.com.ar) says it best in their ad. English translation below:
“Javier Colombo has said goodbye to the AA/Elite class. His last race as AA/Elite in the USA was the NBL Grands in Louisville, Kentucky in the beginning of September. Javi was the first Argentinean to accomplish a few things on the Elite class. In 2000 at the UCI world Championship held in Cordoba, Argentina, he was the first Argentinean ever to make a main event in the Elite class and placed 5th. Six years later he made history again when he won the UCI world Championship title in Sao Paulo, Brazil becoming not only the first Argentinean, but the ONLY south American to win the World Championship 20″ Elite title.”
For all you have accomplished Javier, we want to say THANK YOU and we wish you the best in the Vet Pro class!
22/11 SE & Oakley Collaboration Projects!
SE Bikes press release
SE Bikes & Oakley have teamed up this year to bring you not one, not two, but THREE(!) ultra special collaboration projects. Check ‘em out:
#1: The much sought after Oakley B1-B re-issue grips will be outfitted on SE’s 2011 retro PK Ripper Looptail bike. Oakley is releasing this famous grip for the first time since the mid 80’s. If you didn’t know, Oakley started making BMX & MX grips long before they ever made sunglasses. This new re-issue run of the B1-B grips will consist of five different colorways with only 500 pair of each color being produced. But the 2011 PK Ripper Looptail will come with a VERY exclusive color of black-on-black that is not available anywhere else. Only 200 of this limited edition bike will be available in the USA this year.
The PK Ripper Looptail will be available in the USA at select SE retailers in February 2011.
#2: To coincide with the grips, SE & Oakley have joined forces to create the SE x Oakley Factory Pilot glove. This “Team Fit” glove dons the classic SE Racing & Oakley Factory Pilot logos. But the cool factor does not stop there. This glove has a short & tight cuff for greater wrist articulation, a perforated thumb knuckle pad, out turned seams on the fingers, and “B1-B” grip inspired finger grippers for excellent adhesion to the grips.
The SE x Oakley Factory Pilot gloves will be available in the USA at select SE retailers & at www.BUYSESTUFF.com in April 2011
#3: Of course a collaboration project with Oakley would not be complete without a collab pair of sunglasses. And what better glasses to join the two original brands together than the Oakley Frogskins? That’s right, Oakley has acquired SE’s blue & brown colorway & famous “SE Racing” logo & combined them with the most famous sunglasses of all time, the Oakley Frogskins. These glasses are SUPER limited with only 200 pair available worldwide & available strictly through SE retailers. One hundred pair have been sent to select SE distributors across the globe & the other 100 pair have stayed in the USA. If you want to find a pair of the SE x Oakley Frogskins, you better start hunting. These are SUPER limited!
The SE x Oakley Frogskins are available now in the USA at a few VERY select retailers.

22/11 Morphine Industries Race Report – Florida State Series
Morphine Industries press release
Here We Go, Riverview!!…It’s Florida State Series Time.
The local Morphine Industries Florida based crew hit USA BMX at Riverview, FL for the beginning of the highly anticipated Florida State Series. Unfortunately, the crew was down one with 13X Noah Reeves down for the weekend with a back injury. Hey Noah, when you land after doing flips on a trampoline try your feet not your head!!
Elite Men – “Money” Mike Kapes is back baby!! As a longtime fixture and icon in Florida BMX, it was great to have Mike back on the scene and it was reinforced as many cheered as he lined up on the gate. Mike started off the weekend taking a 2 1st and a 2nd in motos showing that he was back not only in person but also in performance. Main time brought a battle with Kapes getting the holeshot and leading the pack into the first turn. A slight over clearing of the table into the 1st turn gave the opening that other riders were hoping for. In addition, Mike got tangled with CJ in last turn have him settle for a 3rd at the line.
Sunday was a new day with Mike repeating the same performance in motos. The main event again proved to be a battle. Mike once again got the holeshot a followed suit from Saturday, over clearing the table and bobbling into the first turn. Mike regained his speed and finished with s solid second.
11X – Richie Dey came to Riverview to start off the state series with a statement…and a statement was made. Richie lined up on the gate Saturday on both 20” and cruiser. From the start of the day to the end, Richie took a 1st for a perfect day.
Sunday was déjà vu with Richie’s follow riders seeing nothing but the back of his helmet. Richie went wire to wire on both 20” and cruiser ending up in the top spot on the podium.
It was a great weekend of racing a great weekend for the Morphine Industries’ riders. The next stop for the Florida State series is St Pete BMX on Dec 3-5. We look forward to having Noah Reeves back and look forward to a lot of the same – top spots on the podium.
Morphine Industries would like to thank its Factory Team Sponsors; HARO BIKES (harobikes.com), Fly Racing (www.flyracingbmx.com), Alienation (www.alienationbmx.com), Sinz Racing (www.sinz-racing.com), Rennen (www.rennendesigngroup.com), Tioga (www.tiogausa.com/bmx), Black Crown (BlackCrownBmx.com) Without you guys we would be sitting in the dirt. Instead, we are rockin’ the best looking rigs at the gate and on the podium.

19/11 Marc Willers Signs With VSI as Newest Speed Racer
Speed Bicycles press release
Speed Bicycles is pleased to announce that it signed New Zealand’s Marc Willers for the 2011 race season.
“Marc caught my eye a couple of years ago and he has been really fast since the summer. I really liked what I saw at Chula Vista and decided there that he was the guy to lead Speed. We’re really happy to have him on the team and we look forward to a long relationship,” said Toby Henderson, founding partner at VSI, Speed Bicycles’ parent company.
Willers, the silver medalist at the UCI Super Cross Finals, in October in Frejus, France, and a consistent ABA podium finisher, will ride a Speed bicycle equipped with SINZ Elite, SINZ, ITS and THE gear as well as THE helmets and Fly clothing next year.
“After having such a bad year last year, I’m pleased to join with Speed and the guys and I’m looking forward to working with them as I try to take the number-one spot in BMX,” Willers said.
Willers is a skilled dirt jumper and thrill seeker. He once rode his BMX bike at 100 kilometers per hour downhill and he owns a 1977 Toyota Corolla stuffed with a 500 hp engine.
Willers, who is 25 years old, won his first national title at age of 10 and has only lost it three times since. He left high school in 2001 at the age of 16 to paint cars. After making his first Elite Men’s World Final in 2005 he put down the spray gun to race full time.
He moved to Southern California, last year, to chase his goal of becoming the world’s best BMX racer. A shoulder injury in March 2009, however, kept him for competing at the top of his game for most of the season. He had surgery in October and returned to racing in May at the UCI Super Cross World Cup in Copenhagen where he placed 4th. Since then, he has been on the podium at seven out of the 10 ABA nationals he raced and took second in Frejus. He got his first win at the Redline Cup Western Finals in Boulder City, Nevada, last month.
Among Willer’s other racing palmares are 6th at 2005 BMX World Championships; 2nd at 2006 UCI Oceanic Continental series; 1st at UCI Supercross Frejus, France, and 1st at UCI Oceanic Continental series in 2007; 2nd at UCI Supercross Madrid, Spain, 2nd at UCI Oceanic Continental Series, 5th in UCI World Ranking and Olympic Semi-Finalist in 2008.

If you have time and want to pop up for a session email webmaster@bmxultra.com to let us know you are coming.

‘The Royal Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and provides a full range of clinical services and health promotion and prevention programs for infants through to adolescents. Each year the Royal Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of children through our Emergency Department, inpatient admissions and outpatient visits. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation plays a vital role in providing additional funding to support important research projects and purchase state of the art medical equipment to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.

11/11 40 Years of BMX
by Shane Jenkins
On November 14, 1970 Scot Breithaupt, at just 13 years of age, organized what was called “pedal-cross” and his establishment of a track in a vacant lot in Long Beach. Through the early 70’s pedal-cross was renamed BMX as the new sport took California, then USA and the world by storm.
Do you remember what you were doing on November 14 40 years ago? Chances are most of you weren’t born and can’t even comprehend 20 years ago let alone 1970. But that’s one of the great things about BMX, age is no barrier and it’s not uncommon to see 2 or 3 generations of one family enjoying a ride, or even a race, at a BMX track.
Scot Breithaupht has organised a massive 40 Years of BMX celebration (40yearsofbmx.com) in Long Beach California, the birth place of BMX.
Not all of us are fortunate enough to make the event, but it doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it in our own way, with our BMX buddies. We have organised a ride on the backyard track and BBQ at the bmxultra.com compound on November 13, heavy rainfall is threatening to spoil the fun. Maybe we won’t end up riding but we won’t let a little rain get in the way of a good BBQ and a time to reflect on our years of enjoying BMXing, and remembering the events, the places and the people that make it what it is.
You may not remember November 14, 1970, but be sure to make November 14, 2010 a memorable one.
How will you celebrate 40 years of BMX?
11/11 XBR Seeks New Editor
XBR press release
After four years and 29 editions of XBR, Gavin D Andrew is moving on.
Of his decision to leave, Gavin said this:
“The Australian and New Zealand BMX community deserves its own community paper and it needs someone with great passion to drive it; I am no longer that person.”
XBR is now seeking a highly motivated and “passionate about BMX Racing” person or persons, to form a new team and take the paper forward into 2011 and beyond.
The role of the editor is to make decisions on the paper’s content. It is not a writing position. It is however a motivational position, and it is the editors responsibility to chase content and make sure that there are enough articles and images to fill each publication. As editor, they will also have to write a short editorial at the start of each paper.
If you are interested in this position, please send an email with your contact details to:
With the right team behind it – XBR can return as a monthly newspaper for the Australian and New Zealand BMX Racing Community
11/11 GHP signs multi-year deal as ABA National Series Sponsor
ABA press release
In a move that brings two of BMX racing’s biggest and most legendary names together, Greg Hill Products (GHP) and the American Bicycle Association have signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement.

“Greg has played an integral role in the development of our sport from its early days on the dirt lots of Southern California through its emergence as a major global and Olympic Sport. ABA membership continues to grow in large part because of the support of our partners”, stated ABA CEO, B.A. Anderson. He also added “we’re thrilled to welcome GHP on board as a National Series Sponsor”.
Today, Greg Hill can still be found racing and teaching the next generation of BMX racers on ABA tracks all across the country. “The ABA has not only been my competitive home but my BMX family for decades. We are so excited to have signed a multi-year National sponsorship deal with the ABA and cannot wait to get it going. GHP BMX is moving up to the next level for 2011 and there is no better way to do that than to become an ABA National sponsor. 10/11 The ONE bicycles team Australia in New Zealand
One Bicycles Australia press release
Justin and Nik from the ONE Australia team spent ten days in New Zealand, the Land of the long white cloud, riding some of the best tracks around.
Justin was touring with the Australian Mighty 11 team and Nik tagged along for the ride.
First stop after arriving at Auckland airport was the Sunset coast track at Puni. The clowns at Sydney airport had forgot to put Niks helmet bag on the flight and he had to race with borowed gear.
Nik won $15 in the dash for cash and Justin took himself out on the last straight in moto 3 while out in front. Both boys were warming up with pro straights being lined up and Justin clearing the monster first jump a couple of times.
Second stop was Whangarei. The Mighty 11 boys got 2 days here and made the most of the second day due to the first being rained out. This was a long session with heaps of gates and plenty of team riding. Nik was asked to train with the boys as a Kiwi rider. The day ended up with everyone at a really small beach, climbing cliffs and playing footy. Great fun.
Next was a long drive south to Rotorura. The boys got heaps of team training in with Nik helping.out as a kiwi again. The first day of racing ended with 12 yr old Nik in 7th spot, 11 yr old Justin in 10th and the Aussie Mighty 11 team trailing 12 points behind. Nik had riden well pulling seconds and a third. Justin had a huge first straight off in moto 1 which he ended up cracking his carbon bars and giving him an uphill battle to make the semi finals. The Aussie team had a great start winning the first race 1,2,3 and 5th but had the Kiwis claw back to be ahead at the end of day one.
The second day of racing saw both of the ONE riders lift for their finals.
Justin liked his new bars and wasted no time hitting up the big first straight, Nik had won his last moto and both both boys were hitting the second straight under pressure nicely.
The Aussie team lost narrowly in a nail bitter of a last race. Nik had riden solidly all weekend and had made the final in 5th spot.
Niks final saw him come out of the gate fast and by turn 1 had him in third place. With two riders hot on his tail he jumped through the whole second straight low and fast then pushed hard through the last two straights for a podium spot. Nik was stoked to take the North Island No.3 back home to OZ.
Justin had riden well in the team challenge and had pulled back from his disasterous start in the individual event to make the final in 4th spot. He had won his last couple of motos and also his semi final in his usual no nonsense manner. In his final he came out of the gate and launched the first straight, he had over jumped the first jump the previous race and this time he was looking to go lower. He ended up getting a small case which meant he lost half a wheel on the opposition, it also cost him a bit of velocity and he had to punch the second jump higher to get the distance which cost him another half wheel. He got into turn one just a little bit late and had to hit the second straight in second spot. Despite Justin arcing right up the 12 yr old W5 Lewis Smith held him out and he had to settle for taking home the second place.
Nik and Justin had a great time. They both got to do heaps of cool things with the Mighty 11 boys and met some of the most hospitable people on the planet. Thanks to Tom Cole and Lorraine Dunkley for their efforts and to the NZ people we met especially those who billeted Justin during the week.
Above is Nik in the 12yr final and below is Justin in one of the Mighty 11 races. Both are shots of the last jump on the second straight at Rotorura.
If you would like to purchase a One Bicycles frame or accessories in Australia the best way to do so is to head down to your local bike store and place an order. If they don’t know what you are talking about tell them to call Elite Cycle Imports while you wait and place your order there and then. After doing some calculations ourselves we have found the cheapest way to get One Bicycles products in Australia is through a local reseller.

09/11 Team bmxultra.com at The Knox Thunderdome
bmxultra.com press release
The Knox Thunderdome is always a popular race, especially amongst the bmxultra.com team. Despite heavy rainfall washing the surface of the track away the weekend before the event, when racing started the track was smooth and fast.
Aaron Rogers (30 & Over Open wheel) debuted in team bmxultra.com colours at The Knox Thunderdome, he just missed the podium by one position finishing up in fourth place. Welcome to the team Aaron.
Jamie Bullows (30 & Over Open wheel) is starting to get serious about his racing and is slowly stepping it up. He finished up with a respectable sixth place finish in the final.
Chase Collins (A Men) was killing it in the motos on Saturday but had a technical failure in the semi and wasn’t able to progress. He killed it again on Sunday, but managed a sixth in the semi. Chase just keeps getting faster and more determined to make the mains, it’s only a matter of time before you see him racing for a podium finish.
Levi Collins (AA Men) is a little off his normal pace after spending some time off the bike with illness, he missed the cut on Saturday but on Sunday it was a different story, he scrapped into the final after winning a run off for the final spot in the main, then he went on to take fourth place.
Adam Carey (AA Men) was struggling to get a break on the weekend in a tough AA field, he didn’t make the main, but is determined to make an impact next time.
Kyle Horton (AA Men) performed well on the weekend finishing up with a third place in the main on Saturday. On Sunday Kyle was in the main again, a massive power wheelie down the first straight put him towards the back of the field into the first corner where the riders bunched up, to avoid them Kyle went high, lost traction and went down he got up and rolled across the line in seventh.
The bmxultra.com team is proudly supported by One Bicycles, Supercross BMX, Dirt Designs, Tioga, Elite Cycle Imports, THE, Profile, Sun Ringle, and Tektro Brakes.

New Partners
Trail & Track
Trail and Track have been supporters of BSX on and off for some time now, although it’s been adhoc for them, in they get caught up in the moment and throw some items in to the pile of prizes for you to win in raffles, auctions, etc.
This year is the first year they are officially a partner of BSX, signing up as a bronze partner, and we would like to welcome them and their generous support for BSX.
Holeshot Industries
Travis from Holeshot Engineering has been making affordable practice gates for a little under a year now and has applied his skills and knowledge to our starting gate to install a ram. We now have UCI random cadence and a ram to go along with our fun track.
Thanks to Holeshot Industries for signing up as a Silver Partner.
Airsho
Airsho have been with us right from the start under different guises. Andrew Hepburn has supplied us with PA, scaffold and music for every BSX so far. Without him it would be very quiet and we just wouldn’t get the same awesome video footage.
Thanks again to the guys and gals at Airsho for being a Gold Partner at BSX2011.
Ride session Saturday 13th November
To celebrate 40 Years of BMX we’re going to have a ride session at the bmxultra.com compound. It’s also a BYO BBQ. The session kicks off at 10am
Thanks to Travo from Holeshot Engineering we have the ram installed on the gate and ready to go, it would be nice to put it through it’s paces and iron out any potential issues, although it’s running like a dream right now.
We still have plans to bring in more dirt and change some things up a bit, but not sure when it will happen, we need to give the track time to dry up a little before getting some equipment into the track area.
If you have time and want to pop up for a session email webmaster@bmxultra.com to let us know you are coming.

‘The Royal Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and provides a full range of clinical services and health promotion and prevention programs for infants through to adolescents. Each year the Royal Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of children through our Emergency Department, inpatient admissions and outpatient visits. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation plays a vital role in providing additional funding to support important research projects and purchase state of the art medical equipment to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.

02/11 Morphine Industries Disney Cup Race Report
Morphine Industries press release
FLA Baby…Morphine Industries takes it to Orlando for the ABA Disney Cup.
ABA rolling back into Orlando to flex their dirt muscles in the state of Florida – who are we but to turn out to ride, race and enjoy the show. The gathered a few of the crew and converged on Orlando to see what we could dish out.
The powers that be did a fine job at putting the last minute touches on the famed Orlando track to make it a great template for the weekend.
Elite Men – Mike Kapes showed up for his only ABA race on his comeback tour to run Friday and Sunday. Kapes showed again that he is on his way to back to the top of the field making his way around the track consistently in the top 4 on both days. However there is no room for error in semis causing Mike to bow out on the Mains.
Elite Men – Gavin Lubbe made the trip from SoCal to mix it up on the dirt turns of Orlando. Gavin hit Elite men both Friday and Saturday to give a solid showing but narrowing missing the main both days. Sunday brought a new day with Gavin giving a riding clinic in A PRO class. Gavin rode from the front wire to wire to take the main,
17-18X – Tanner Sebesta Morphine Industries’ newest addition showed that he is legit with a solid showing in both Junior Men and 17-18 X. Tanner started off Friday killing it in motos battling for the top spot with the Razzberry in Junior Men and dominating in class. Main time in both races found Tanner’s style to much for the dirt turns to handle sending him to the ground.
Saturday was a different day with Tanner on point. Laying it down in motos to gain a spot at the gate in both mains, Tanner took a 2nd spot on the podium for Junior Men and Class. Sunday was again a display of horses out of the gate securing his familiar spot in the main. He ended up in the dirt on turn one again battling for the lead in Junior Men settling for an 8. However in 17-18X, he went wire to wire to end the weekend with the dominate top spot of the podium. Yo Bro you traded up for sure.
13X – Noah Reeves took command of his motos on Friday and Saturday easily making it into the main events. Noah battled for the top spot on the podium but settled for a third spot on Friday. Saturday, Noah hit the gate and came unclipped going into the table at the bottom of the hill. He made the most of his track time cruising the doubles with turn bars and style that he is known for. If Sunday is a day of rest for the Man upstairs then who is Noah to second guess – he chilled.
11X – Richie Dey came in for Sunday to turn some heads before the weekend was over. Richie hit the 11x class with what else AIR. Rolling to the main event and ending with a solid three for a place on the podium.
Great weekend and a great way to round up the season as we prepare for the Grands next month is Tulsa. Be sure to come check us out if not you can be sure we will be in the mains.
