bmxultra.com press release

Matt Butterworth tearing it up in Western Australia

So August rolls around and after a small break for the World Championships, the WA Super Series fires up again in Northam for Round 6. WA Team rider Matt Butterworth was representing bmxultra.com in the 40 and over men’s class. Matt transferred out of the motos with a 1-1-1, The clean sheet continued with Matt taking the win in the final by from a hard finishing Bevan Orchard who made a challenge for the lead down the 3rd straight and Steven Donnelly in the 3rd.

Fast forward 2 weeks and the bmxultra.com team rolled into Port Hedland for second stop of the North West Championships. The club had done a tremendous amount of work to create a fast, flowy and technical track and the twilight event made for perfect racing conditions – warm and not much wind. Matt this time was entered in the 18 and over men and was up against some fast competition from some local young guns including Karratha local Rodney Gethin.

An all-points format over 5 motos saw Matt not drop a lap on his super stiff ONE Bicycles Pro XL and claim 1st Place ahead of Rodney and fellow Karratha rider Greg Kiehne.

Finally Rd 7 of the WA Super Series held at the Rockingham BMX Club on Sunday 8th September. Two new technical straights since the last time the club hosted a round was greeted with cautious enthusiasm until everyone had the track dialled – after which came good, hard, tight racing in all age groups. Once again Matt was entered in the 40 and over men and the usual suspects were on the moto sheets. This is Jason May’s home track and was looking smooth with some secret lines and confident of the win. As was the case in Port Hedland this was an all-points affair but with a full gate of 8 riders meant no slacking off for the win. Consistency was the key in Rockingham and Matt finished with a 1-2-1-1 and 5 points for the win with Jason May in 2nd with a 2-1-2-2 and 7 points, followed by Bevan Orchard on 13 points.

We are heading toward the pointy end of the season with the State Championships in KalVegas (Kalgoorlie) from October 4-6, but not before the bmxultra.com Team makes a stop next week in sunny Karratha for the final round of the North West Championships.
