New frames from Supercross just around the corner

Supercross BMX are full steam ahead as they celebrate their 25th anniversary, but with Bill Ryan at the helm that seems to be the only speed they know. What’s already been a massive year for Supercross with the release of the V5 Envy frame, which seem to be selling faster than One Direction tickets, and more recently the 1 1/8 – 1.5″ tapered cromo fork. You can bet your bottom dollar thing are only going to get bigger.

When you see leaked photos of the new Envy BLK (carbon frames) fully stickered up, it’s only a matter of time before the before you’ll start to see them in the flesh. Here’s the latest of the leaked photos. We believe that the first batch of frames will only be available in the white/blue/carbon colour combo.

According to the Supercross website there are only limited sizes available initially. “Due to the high cost involved in building tooling for the ENVY BLK frames we are starting out with 4 Pro sizes, Pro, Pro Plus, Pro XL and Pro XXL, but eventually we will be bringing this Carbon advantage to all sizes of riders with the Junior , Expert and Expert XL sizes already in planning.”

The party isn’t about to stop there, the much awaited 450z frames will be released at about the same time. The 450z is the re-invention of the Supercross Bolt LT cromo frame, after 25 years you would expect something that pays homage to the frames that kicked things off for Supercross, but instead they have gone the other way and the new 450z will resemble the extremely popular Envy frames with a bi-ovalised downtube and upside down tear drop top tube. This is no novelty frame, it’s a serious race machine which will have ovalised seat and chain stays and 15mm drop outs to ensure it’s one of the stiffest cromo frames to ever have grace a BMX race track.

We believe there is only a limited run of these frames being manufactured, it’s said there will be just 6 sizes that include 20″ Pro, Pro Plus, Pro XL, and Pro XXL, there will also be a 24″ Pro XL and a 26″ version. It’s also said that they will only be released in chrome and there will be only 25 of each size.  There are a handful of prototypes getting around that are painted, those frames are extremely rare and at this stage will be the only painted versions of the frames.
