Product Spotlight: ICE IRC SX Chain Tensioners

The guys over at ICE have updated their IRC chain tensioner, the IRC SX addresses the tight spot in your chain and simplifies gear changes. Here’s all the details, check them out.

ICE Develops IRC SX chain tensioners to erase tight spot on chain and optimise gear change

ICE created the first IRC chain tensioner in 2021, and today, the brand launches the IRC SX chain tensioner : new version of chain tensioners that aims to solve tight spot on your chain and optimize the quality of transmission for high performance in BMX racing.

IRC SX chain tensioners will fit any settings on your bike. Thought to adapt to high performance pedaling, with big watts from legs, it has been thought to transmit power produced by the best of the best while erasing most of the little problems due to long use of chain, chainring or cog.

IRC SX Specs

IRC SX is available in 2 versions : Type I & II. Type I fits for 10 mm diameter dropout, and also fits for 10 and 15 mm axles if it’s set with some adapters. Then Type II fits for 20 mm diameter dropout, and also fits for 15 and 10 mm axles.

While creating permanent tension on the chain thanks to the spring, the IRC SX erases tight spot on the chain, to allow a smoother transmission system and optimal tension all along your track session despite vibration at full speed. Teflon roller and alloy CNC pulley are laterally adjustable to adapt with the chain alignment.

IRC SX also makes possible the fact riders can change their chain ring faster than before, without having an impact on their backwheel/dropout length and main settings. This system offers more freedom and comfort to those who want to gain time with this, between two motos or during training. The IRC SX chain tensioner have many anchor points on the swing arm and the main frame. You can also upgrade the chain tension by modifying the spring position, according to your settings.

Important Mechanical Precision

You will have to extend your 3/32 chain, by adding two, three or four links depending on the chain used, to perfectly fit IRC SX chain tensioner. Adding a half link may be necessary for more precision in your setting.

After this, pass your chain over the teflon roller and between the pulley and the alloy bridge. Then close your chain with a QR joining link or chain rivet extractor. The chain shall be highly tensioned, to prevent it from jumping when accelerating. If so, please increase the tension by modifying the place of the spring on the body or on the swing arm. A perfect chain alignment has to be done before trying to adjust the tensioner.

Main Advantages

1. No more tight point on your chain (due to chainring, cog or crankset). Moreover the swing arm is mounted on a spring, which is a solution to erase potential transmission defaults.
2. You can chance your gear without modifying any setting on your dropout*, so that you can stay efficient if you need to do this.
