Remembering Lyndon Downing: Innovator, Volunteer and BMX Pioneer
Remembering Lyndon Downing: Innovator, Volunteer and BMX Pioneer.
The BMX community has lost one of its true innovators, with news this week that AusCycling Life Member and long-time BMX volunteer Lyndon Downing has passed away.
Lyndon played a significant role in the development of BMX racing in Australia through the creation of the BMX Event Management (BEM) system. Designed to simplify the administration of race meetings, BEM became a groundbreaking platform and was the first BMX event management software to integrate directly with timing systems, helping modernise the way events were run across the country and beyond.
We had the opportunity to work closely with Lyndon during the early years of BSX, before automated timing systems became commonplace. More than just a technical mind, Lyndon was a genuine people person. Whether it was discussing BMX, event management, software development, or the latest technical challenges, he always had time for a conversation and was passionate about helping the sport move forward.
His contributions to BMX racing have left a lasting impact that will continue to benefit riders, clubs and organisers for years to come.
On behalf of everyone at bmxultra.com, we extend our deepest condolences to Lyndon’s family, friends, and the many people throughout the BMX community whose lives he touched.
