29/09 2012 Queensland State Championships to be held in Cairns

by bikemedia

Cairns BMX club have secured another major BMX event just five months after hosting the National Championships in May.  Just yesterday the location for the 2012 BMX Queensland state championships was announced and will be held at the Cairns BMX Club between 24-30th September.

The Scott Street track has been recently upgraded  and is expected to hold well over 800 riders from all over Queensland.  Queensland boasts the largest number of BMX riders from 3O clubs.

The state championships were last hosted in the city in 2008 and was heralded as a great success. The event is expected to bring in the vicinity of four to five million dollars to the local economy and BMX families are busy booking accommodation for next year.

According to BMXQ President, Mr Bruce Oliver, the Cairns is an ideal location.

“We are pleased to hold the event in Cairns. The Cairns club is a great venue and it is has the largest  membership in Australia.

“The far north are running some great coaching clinics so we can expect that there will be some medals for the local club and the surrounding clubs.

“The BMX Queensland committee look forward to working along the Cairns club to make it an amazing event.”

The Cairns BMX President, Mrs Emma Hoad, said it will also benefit their riders in other ways.

“We have a large amount of people in our zone so it is helpful for those people to have it in their backyard.

“We have a lot of families where the mum, the dad and the kids all ride so this will help them in the hip pocket.

“We had a lot of new riders so racing at state level then they might want to pursue the sport a bit more.”

Obviously this time next year it will be all happening all systems go.

The event is supported by the Queensland’s Department of Sport and Recreation and the Cairns Regional Council.

27/09 Rush/Toys R Us team report: Queensland State championships wrap up

Rush/Toys R Us press release

Qld State Titles – Day Three

Day three of the titles saw our two eldest riders competing for a Queensland Plate.

First to race was our pocket rocket 13 year old Aislynn Weber.  Aislynn was determined to win back her number one plate after losing it in the muddy Mackay titles last year.  Aislynn was not troubled in her moto’s finishing 1st, 1st and 1st.  This saw her straight into the final.  She snapped the gate and rode like a true champion and crossed the line in first place, winning back her 1Q plate once again.

Next was our eldest team member Michael Wallin who races in the 30+ Masters class.  Michael is one of the hardest trainers anyone could ever know and was also determined to be crowned number one in Queensland.  Michael’s moto’s went the same way as Aislynn with 1st, 1st and 1st.  Once again, he also did not have a semi, so he was also straight into the final.  Unfortunately the nerves got the better of his gate and he went around the first berm in second place and was making way on the first place rider.  Corey Stafford was in third place and tried a berm move on Michael but it did not pay off and he crashed and hit Michael’s back wheel.  Michael was very lucky to stay upright.  This made him determined to try and get into first place.  Michael railed the last berm and his training paid off down the last straight and he was able to cross in front of the leader just on the line.  This also made him ranked number one in Queensland in the 30+ Masters age group.

27/09 Ronnie Dugdell wins Queenland State Championships

by bikemedia

It took a photo finish to decide the winner of the elite men’s final at the BMXQ state championships  in Bundaberg on Sunday.  The width of a tyre was enough for Cairns rider, Ronnie Dugdell, to edge out defending title holder, Joel Clark from the Sunshine Coast.

“I knew I had enough momentum,” said Dugdell a former state winner in 2008.

But it was Clark who dominated the race leading down all four straights.

“Ronnie deserved the win,” said Clark. “I knew there was someone behind me but I thought it was Darryn (Goodwin).”

Goodwin from Perth secured third place.

There was another upset in the elite women’s race when Gold Coast’s Ashmore club rider, Gemma Sloane headed off defending title holder Kelly Percy from Redlands. Percy finished in third place and a smart ride by Lacey Oliver from Nerang gave her second place.

Cairns club secured the most wins on the final day of competition with a total of three while home club, Bundaberg claimed two.

Sunday’s challenge and elite class winners were: Mackay Pioneer’s Corey Frieswyck in junior men; Nerang’s Madison Janssen in junior women; Walkerston’s Michael Wallin in 30+ men; Cairns riders Bryce Stroud in 13 boys and Aislynn Weber in 13 girls; Bundaberg’s Abbie Blackburn in 14 girls and Jade Parker in 15 girls; Harbour City’s Jason Rayner in 14 boys; Townsville’s Brendan Floriduz in 15 boys; Rockhampton’s Erin Rook in 15 girls and Pine River’s Joshua Zarb in16 boys.

Cairns BMX club have secured the 2012 BMX State Championships which will be held between 24 – 30 September.

Over 810 riders from all over Queensland participated from as young as 5 year old to the over 50’s and during three days of  tough competition 102 titles were given out. Cairns club recorded the highest number of winners with 16 while the Gold Coast area scored well with Ashmore club gaining seven and Nerang three wins. The local Bundaberg club came away with five winners.

26/09 Rush/Toys R Us team report: Queensland State championships

Rush/Toys R Us team press release

Qld State Titles – Day One

Today was the first day of official racing with the sprockets and cruisers riders racing for a state plate.

Rush/Toys R Us team had a total of 6 riders racing.

The youngest of our riders, Ollie Harvey – 6 year boys rode really well with 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st and 2nd in his five moto’s.

Next was our 8-10 year boys cruisers with Sam Harvey just missing the semi final.  Sam is only 8 years of age, so he rode extremely well finishing 5th, 6th, 6th and 6th in his moto’s.

George Harvey (10 years old) was our surprise package and raced all his 4 moto’s like it was the final.  He finished 4th, 3rd, 4th and 2nd in his moto’s and this put him through to the semi where he placed 4th, which put him into his first final for cruiser.  The final was full of very fast kids and George was squeezed out of the gate and rode his way through the pack and finished a well riden 4th place.

Joel Grace (10 years old) rode his moto’s like we all knew he would and finished 2nd, 1st, 1st and 1st.  This put him through to the semi, where he finished 1st.  He had second pick on the gate and came out of gate 1.  Joel was in front all the way down the first and second straight but unfortunately unclipped into the second berm and was taken up in the berm and came out in second place, he fought hard to clip back in down the third straight and ended up finishing in a well earned 2nd place.

Next to ride was Ronan Weber in the 11-12 year boys cruisers, which Ronan is only 11 year old.  Ronan’s first moto saw him slip in the first berm which had him finish in 8th place.  Ronan is a top rider and we knew he would work hard through his next 3 moto’s to try and make the semi.  His next three moto’s saw him finish 3rd, 7th and 5th which placed him 16th and qualifying for the semi.  Ronan was up against some top notch competition and finished 8th in his semi which did not see him into the final.

Aislynn Weber was the eldest of our riders today, riding in the 13-14 year girls cruiser which she is only 13 years old.  Aislynn was on fire for her moto’s finishing 1st, 1st, 4th and 1st.  These places saw her straight into the final.  Aislynn picked gate 2 and snapped the gate and lead from start to finish.  Aislynn is now the number one rider in the 13-14 girls cruiser age group.

Qld State Titles – Day Two

The Rush/Toys R Us team had 7 riders competing today for Queensland Plates.

First to race was our 8 year boys, Jon Balaam and Sam Harvey.  Jon rode well in his moto’s finishing 2nd, 1st, 1st and 3rd which saw him in a good place for the quarters.  Jon snapped out of the gate and pulled some unbelievable berm moves to finish in 2nd.  In his semi, he played it safe and finished 4th which saw him in his first Queensland final.

Sam also rode well in his moto’s finishing 1st, 2nd, 1st and 2nd.  This put Sam into the quarters, where he blitzed the field finishing 1st.  Sam was very nervous for his semi, but once he was out on the track the nerves were not shown, he finished in 2nd.

Both Jon and Sam where into the final and Jon came out of gate 6, whilst Sam came out of gate 4.  Both boys had great starts and Jon finished a well earned 6th place.  Sam was pushing all the way for a podium finish, but missed out by 0.07 seconds and finished in 4th place.

Max Balaam, our only 9 year boy, finished all firsts in his four moto’s.  In his quarter final and semi final he rode amazing race’s and once again rode over the finish line in first place for both races.    Max was up against the defending 1Q from 2010.  We were all ready for an amazing race, and Max did not disappoint us.  He finished in 2nd place and fought all the way to the finish line.

Next was out 10 year boys, George Harvey and Joel Grace.  George raced his heart out in his moto’s finishing 3rd, 1st, 3rd and 4th.  This saw him into the quarter finals.  Unfortunately George did not get his best start and had to work his way through the pack.  Going into the last berm he was in 5th place trying to get into the magical 4th place and was taken high and lost all his speed.  George has the never give up attitude and kept trying all the way to the finish line and just missed out on the semi finals.

Joel is the defending 2010 champion and was very determined to keep his plate after finishing 2nd on his cruiser on day one.  Joel was not worried through his moto’s finishing all four in first place.  His quarters and semi also saw him cross the line in first place for both races.  The final was what Joel was waiting for.  He wanted to defend his 1Q from 2010.  Joel had a great start and was not worried the whole way around the track and successfully defended his 2010 crown.  Joel is now the fastest Queensland rider for 10 year boys.

Next on the track was Ronan Weber in the 11 year boy’s class.  Ronan has just missed out on a final for the States in the last 2 years and he has been training extremely hard for the last twelve months to ensure that this year was going to be a top eight place.  Ronan placed well through his moto’s finishing 1st, 3rd, 2nd and 1st.  Ronan’s quarter and semi saw him cross the line in 1st place for both races.  This saw Ronan into the final.  The 11 year boy’s class is a very tough class and Ronan rode really well and crossed the finish line in 5th place.

Liam Vitale was in the 12 year boy’s class.  This class had some of the fastest 12 year boys in Australia racing in the State Titles.  Liam’s four moto’s saw him finish in 1st, 6th, 1st and 1st.  His quarter was a well ridden race and he finished in 1st whilst he played it safe in the semi crossing the line in 2nd.  This saw him into the final.  Liam had a middle of the pack start and worked his way up into the first berm where five of the eight riders fell.  Luckily for Liam he only unclipped and stayed upright.  Liam quickly clipped back into his pedal and kept majority of his speed and was able to finish the race in 2nd place.

26/09 Factory DK rider Dugdell storms home to win Queensland State Titles

DK press release

DK factory rider Ronnie Dugdell has put the last 18 months of injuries behind him to claim the #1 spot in the heavily contested Elite Men’s field at the Queensland State titles held over the weekend in sunny Bundaberg, after having numerous operations on his elbow and also a broken collar bone Ronnie has been putting in big efforts to be back at the top of his game.

With Ronnie looking relaxed in the pits pumping tunes thru his Skullcandy UPROCK headphones and sipping back on Bioflex Recovery it was time to get the main show on the road.

When the gate dropped it was a two horse race between Ronnie Dugdell and Joel Clark, with Joel having the inside line coming into the corner he come out first and held Ronnie high on the berm , and with that Darryn Goodwin slotted into 3rd, Ronnie made a dive into turn 2  but Joel still had the advantage heading down the 3rd straight, this is where Ronnie made his move carrying a lot of speed thru turn 3 and running Joel down in what would have been the closest finishes in some time. When the dust had settled it was Ronnie who had won by a fraction of a second to claim the number 1 spot.

In other news from the state titles DK rider Cherie Simpson finished 3rd in Elite Woman, Mitch Hoad (12 boys) and Team Manager Corey Stafford (30+elite masters) both made finals but had big crashes finishing at the back of the pack.

Factory DK would like to thank the following co-sponsors:

Loosekid Industries – www.loosekid.com

Bioflex Nutrition – www.bioflexnutrition.com

Skullcandy Australia – www.skullcandy.com.au

26/09 Morphine Industries dominates the podium at Portage

Morphine Industries press release

As we head toward the end of the season, it’s getting to be crunch time to squeeze in points so we loaded up the Morphine/Haro/Fly Limo and took off to Portage Indiana for a weekend of business and pleasure.  The temps were in the low 70’s and the track was fun, so we had the main ingredients for a successful weekend.

Olijuwon Davis set the pace by winning every moto in A Pro on Saturday and a second place in the main. Sunday was more of the same, only OD got nudged on the first straight and found himself in the 4 spot as he crossed the line.

Noah Reeves made the trip from sunny Florida to mix it up in 14X.  Noah got on the podium with a 3rd on Saturday but Sunday wasn’t his day. He came unclipped out of the gate in the main so he had to settle for throwin’ style for the ladies instead of throwin’ bows with the boys!

Jared “Doc” Johnson is the newest ripper on the team. He battled hard with the guys in 15X and brought home 4th place on both days. Doc has been on a tear lately so you know he’ll be back on the box next time!

Brandon McCoy also made his debut for the team as he stormed into the always tough 19-27 expert class.  This has to be the best amateur class to watch and “BMC” was ready to put on a show.  On Saturday, Brandon never lost a lap as he battled the likes of Chase Hines, Max Egdorf and Tony Favata.  “Fly Boy McCoy” took home the win Saturday at his first race back from injury. When the main rolled around on Sunday, so did a rain shower … Brandon choose to ride on the cautious side since Chula Vista is right around the corner and settled with a 4th.

Charlie Hunt has been unstoppable this season and Portage was no different.  ….until he met Mike Weatherford in the 28-35 expert main on Saturday.  CH3 got a rare 2nd place that go around but it was redemption day on Sunday as Charlie wrapped up his weekend with another victory.  Charlie also doubled up for the weekend in 26-30 cruiser.  3 wins, 4 podiums….not bad!    -Those wins put CH3 at NAG 2 and NAG 3.

Doran Bradshaw had been nursing injured ribs but you couldn’t tell as he rolled out of Portage with two wins in 36-40 cruiser and a win in 36-40 expert.  Those wins put DB100 at NAG 2 on both bikes as we head towards Disney, then on to Grands.

Be sure to stop by the pits at Disney to check out the fastest, best looking whips at the track.  Big thanks to HARO, Fly Racing, Hawk/Folmer, Rennen, Black Crown, Tioga, Alienation and DK bicycles for making it all possible!

23/09 BMX Supercross ‘home- coming’ for final stop UCI BMX Supercross Word Cup Series 2011 in Chula Vista, California

UCI press release

The best Elite BMX riders in the world will get together on September 30th and October 1st in Chula Vista, California for 2011 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup finals, presented by Swatch. During this fourth stop in California, home of BMX, the overall winners of this year’s Elite men and Elite women in the BMX SX World Cup will be decided. Moreover, crucial qualification points are up for grabs for National Olympic qualification rankings.

Home of BMX

The California Supercross event will be held at the United States Olympic Committee Training Centre in Chula Vista. The track is a challenging, spiced up replica of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games track and is a favorite amongst the world’s best Elite riders.

Men’s favorites

Home favorite amongst the Elite men must be the young American Connor Fields, who just recovered from an injury but shows great form by making it to the finals at the two last events. Fields and his US Cycling teammates have to keep an eye on Marc Willers (NZL). The Kiwi rider seems the man to beat this season. His victory at the London 2012 Olympic track was very impressive. In a final with all the big names, like Willoughby (AUS), Daudet (FRA) and Strombergs (LAT), Willers managed to cross the line first after several lead changes. Willers also won the Papendal Supercross stop in May and showed great form at the UCI BMX World Championships in Copenhagen, only to make a few small mistakes allowing Daudet to pass.

Also keep an eye out for Maris Strombergs. He has been showing great form after recovering from an injury and Chula Vista is one of his favorite tracks. But perhaps the biggest favorite is the 2011 BMX World Champion Joris Daudet (FRA). Daudet is leading the World Cup series only a few points ahead of Willers and he will not back down an inch in order to win the “Triple Crown” of 2011 (BMX SX Champion, World Champion and European Champion).

Women’s favorites

France is amongst the best performing BMX countries this 2011 season. Therefore it is likely a French rider will stand on the podium in Chula Vista at both Men and Women competitions. Look out for Manon Valentino who has won this year’s first Supercross stop in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Valentino’s teammate Magalie Pottier claimed the bronze medal at the UCI BMX World Championships in Copenhagen and is trailing Sarah Walker for the overall title.

World Champion Marianna Pajon is keen on improving her London performance, where the Columbian crashed in the final. The big favorite has to be Sarah Walker (NZL). Sarah is currently in a comfortable lead in the overall standing and would like nothing else than win the final event in Chula Vista. The London winner, Shanaze Reade (GBR), might not race in Chula Vista and in stead stay home and prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games.

22/09 Supercross Australia’s Max Cairns wins A Pro at Shepparton

Supercross BMX Australia press release

15 year old Max Cairns took on a large A Pro field at Shepparton on Sunday. Max dominated his motos and his semi and was one of the favourites for the final. With a 3 moto final scenario it was going to be a well earned win. Max won all three finals, but he didn’t have it all his way. In the second final Max had to work hard and come from behind to take the win.

That’s the second week in a row that the A Pro class was dominated by a rider on a Supercross after Dane Pangallo from the bmxultra.com team took the win at Bendigo.

Keep an eye on Max over the coming months, it won’t be long until he joins the AA ranks.

22/09 One Bicycles Australia at the Castle Hill Orange Blossom

ONE Bicycles Australia/ECI press release

Some of the ONE Bicycles Australia Factory Team headed to Sydney last weekend to take up an opportunity to have a practise ride on the home track for the 2011 NSW Titles at Liverpool before heading out to the Castle hill BMX Club for the running of the 30th Annual Orange Blossom Open. Castle Hill track is a downhill fast fun track the kids really enjoy,so they were looking forward to having their last hit out before the NSW State Titles.

Mikayla was back racing the 11 girl’s class and eager to keep her winning streak intact. The girls in this class are getting bigger and stronger each year, so Mikayla is being kept on her toes by Rene Williams and new comer Emma O’Hearne. In her first race Mikayla had a shocker and chased Emma all the way to the line for a second. In the next race she managed a clean set of heels from the gate and took back her place in first. In the third heat Mikayla got beaten to the first corner and then had to make an impressive passing move in the second corner to take back control of the race and the win with it. In the final Mikayla came out flying and took a great win by a comfortable margin winning 11 Girls for the day and gaining confidence coming in to the State Titles in a hope to make it three  #1 NSW plates in a row.

On Cruiser we entered Mikayla in the 11-12 Boys Class just to mix it up for her and push her a little. Mikayla and I were talking and completely unaware of when she was to be on the gate so she missed her first heat and sat and watched as they rode by. In the next heat she had nothing to lose, so she came out all guns blazing and finished with a strong second place. In the third heat Mikayla managed another strong race for a close third. We both thought she had missed the cut because of not racing the first race, but she had made it to the final but had gate 8. A miracle was needed for her to do anything from out there. When the dust settled Mikayla came in 7th against the boys from an outside gate which wasn’t such a bad thing to finish the day.

Nikalus loves this track and was looking forward to racing his mate Andy Hughes and the rest of his bunch after getting his new race gear he looked the part and was ready to go. In his first race Nik finished with a second behind Ben Bainey in a tough battle to the line. In the second heat Nik was battling Ben again when he tried an unusual passing move in the fastest section of the track and slid out crashing heavily and tearing his favourite ONE jersey to pieces. Thank god for elbow guards! Nik rolled through in last and needed a good race in the next heat to get through to the finals. He did just that with a tight third behind Andy and Ben. Finals time and Nik drew an outside gate due to the crash and needed to get a good first straight to position himself well for a good finish. When the gate dropped, Nik came out strong and pushed himself in to the third spot and chased the lead two riders in Ben and Andy all the way to the line for a close third spot for the day and a great run before the State Titles.

On cruiser Nik was racing 13-16 Boys cruiser and had some stiff competition. In his first race Nik was on fire and battled all the way to the line for a strong second place. In the next two races Nik finished with thirds. In the final Nik came out strong and raced hard against the older riders with a good third place in the final and a heap of confidence leading up to the State Titles.

Joshua was racing in an unusual age class in 16-29 men and was curious about where he stood as he didn’t know any of the riders and some of them were racing A men. Josh has been training hard under new Coach Adam Carey and has seen massive gains in his strength and speed. This event was a chance to see it all come together. In his first heat Josh came out strong and raced hard for a comfortable third. In his second heat josh came out flying to take a win. In the third heat he had a shocker gate and made his way to through the pack to sit in fourth across the line. Josh had fourth pick in the final and chose gate 5. He saved his best gate for the final and came out strong sitting in third to the first corner where he made an amazing high/low move on the second place rider to sit in second down the second straight. Josh and the rider in third got a little loose over the double in the second straight, coming together with the rider in third coming down hard and josh free to take off after the leader. As he made his way in to the last straight and with the finish line in sight, josh found that little extra to push his way in to the lead meters from the line to cross in first place, a great effort and an amazing race.

Justin was racing 12 boys and really in a class of his own. Justin is a strong kid who has amazing skills and combined make for a difficult package to beat in this class. As the reigning Australian, ACT and NSW State Champion, he is the master of his class and the rider they all want to beat. This event was a good hit out for him also leading in to the NSW State Titles. Justin was super strong coming out in every heat with a dominant gate and first straight, which gave his competitors no chance to hunt him down as he crossed the line in first place in every heat. Justin was riding on the latest release wheels from SINZ in the form of the I HUB wheelset, a straight pull spoked hubset combined with a super light rim to make a nice strong package. Justin came in to the final as the favourite and proved why with an easy win and #1 plate for the event.

The ONE team were trialling the new ITS Hustler tyres which they were recommended to try by Luke Madill. They are an inverted tread design specifically designed for hard packed surfaces which will be ideal for Liverpool with its hard surface and bitumen corners. On the crushed granite surface of Castle Hill track the kids said the tyres were amazing. Get to your local shop and try them out!

The ONE team would like to thank their dedicated and loving families for driving them all over the country to race events. To their manager Shane Jenkins who supports the riders even with a massive work load of his own. To Scott Hand of A Team distributions for the amazing SNAP and Alius gear, components you definitely need to check out. To ECI for their never ending support and encouragement for the Team and providing them with the best frames in the game in ONE BMX Bicycles.

19/09 Photos: Shepparton Open

by bmxultra.com

With the postponement of the Eastfield Experience some quick thinking individuals threw together a last minute open race at Shepparton. Despite the fact they are only half way through resurfacing the track it was in great condition. There have been some small changes with some of the jumps being a little more lippy than they were in the past. There were blue skies all day, you couldn’t have asked for better weather.

16/09 Interbike: New Profile race cranks and Kuwahara bike

by bmxultra.com

As we mentioned earlier this week Interbike is the place where lots of manufacturers launch new products. Profile Racing has had a new set of cranks in development for some time and have been keeping it very hush hush, they are causing quite a stir at Interbike. This is a significant departure from the Profile Cranks that have been around for what seems like forever. If you weren’t convinced that the current Profile cranks were capable of rivaling the Shimano DXR and Sinz XXX cranks take a look at Profile’s new Elite race crank.

The new Kuwahara frames are very different to the Kuwa’s that we have been seeing these past few years. We believe some of these will be coming to Australia after the show, hopefully we’ll get a closer look at them soon.

14/09 Goldcross Cycles BSX: Dig/Ride this Saturday

by bmxultra.com

BSX (short for Bicycle Supercross, and is often referred to as Backyard Supercross) is a Royal Children’s Hospital fund raiser. It will be on again on Monday January 16, 2012 (during Track Attack). It will be the seventh running of the one on one backyard BMX race. BSX is the longest running event of it’s kind in the world and draws a large number of competitors from around Australia. The event has pulled a few international visitors and a number of Olympians.

Dig/Ride this Saturday

We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us to get the track changes sorted out for BSX and the weather is looking good for Saturday at this stage. If you would like to drop in for a ride or to help swing a shovel drop us an email and let us know you are coming at webmaster@bmxultra.com. We’ll be at it from 10am until around 5pm.

Partnership opportunities

If you would like to be involved in BSX2012 we have partnership packages available now, email webmaster@bmxultra.com for details. Basically we are looking for products or even services for auctions/raffles and it’s possible to make cash donations (these are made out directly to the Royal Children’s Hospital and tax receipts available). 100% of profits raised will go directly to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

bsx2012-poster-thumbPosters

We have been doing a lot of early planning work this year for BSX, the event is six months away and we plan to have posters out in stores to help plug the event even more. If you would like to get involved with the event as a partner please let us know early so you can have your company represented on the posters. We would like to get the posters circulating around October time, so please get in early.

BSX track changes

We have been promissing some track changes for some time now, but have been waiting for some equipment to truck in the 100 cubic metres of new dirt (that’s approximately half as much as we have already). Instead of making you wait for us to complete the changes to see what we have planned we have a sneak peek of what is in store for you guys. The BSX track has had the same layout now for 6 years, given the size and shape of the land it’s built on it’s difficult to change that, but there’s nothing to say we can’t use a little imagination and a lot of influence from our dirt jumping brothers. These past few years we have had to contend with both rain and heat when BSX is on so any track changes would need to allow for riding no matter what the conditions. Add to that our observations of how the track is ridden both at BSX and other times. It’s the last half of the track that we plan to flatten and start again. Here is our rough guide for the third corner. The center is a dirt quarter pipe that will be approximately 1.5 meters tall and 5 meters wide. The outside will have two 90° hip jumps, they are likely to be around 1.2 meters tall. If this works according to plan it will be mirrored for the fourth corner as well. How the rest of the track will look, well, you will need to wait and see.

About BSX

BSX (Bicycle Supercross) is one-on-one sprint trails style racing on a backyard track built specifically to test a rider’s skills. The short straights, lofty jumps and tight corners are very intense under race conditions but also fun for competitors and create quite a lot of entertainment for spectators. The event provides a unique experience for the local Victorian riders, as well as the interstate and international visitors during an off day of the Track Attack series. The events primary function is to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. In just five years the event has raised approximately $24,700 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.

About the Royal Children’s Hospital

‘The Royal Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and provides a full range of clinical services and health promotion and prevention programs for infants through to adolescents. Each year the Royal Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of children through our Emergency Department, inpatient admissions and outpatient visits. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation plays a vital role in providing additional funding to support important research projects and purchase state of the art medical equipment to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.

12/09 One Bicycles Australia Factory Team at the Penrith Supanats

One Bicycles Australia press release

by Miekel Rose

This year’s event came with a twist! New lights and fireworks and a Saturday evening timetable, made for a great lead up to Father’s Day. Penrith is a super technical track and a challenge for riders of all skill levels. The club recently were funded by their local council to install $95,000 worth of lighting and the club saw this as an opportunity to test them with a 450 rider event. The lights were amazing with not one dark spot on the track at all! It was like daylight! Due to the recent track rebuild by Blue Mountains Club, Penrith also took on the State Series Round transferred from the Blue Mountains Open that wasn’t run! It was also great to catch up with fellow team mate in Justin Beattie and his lovely family at the event.

Mikayla was racing again in 11 Girls and this was a Dynamite round for her and a State Series round for her competitors. This made for some tough racing and a good challenge leading up to the NSW Titles. Mikayla hit the gate in her first heat slamming her knee in to the stem which caused her great pain and stung all the way through the race. Mikayla managed a second in her first heat, beaten by Southlake rider Emma O’Hearn. In the next two motos, Mikayla showed her dominance with consecutive wins over Emma and good friend Rene “Possum” Williams. In the final, Mikayla was cool and collected and went out and finished off the event with another win, with Rene in second and Emma an unfortunate crash, sliding out in the second corner and crossing the line in 5th.

In Junior Ladies cruiser, Mikayla was taking her newly kitted out cruiser for a test ride before the NSW State Titles. Recently fitted with Alius ROX hubs and amazing SNAP gear including chainring, stem and tensioners, the little ONE Cruiser looked awesome and was getting some great feedback from Mikayla. Mikayla gave the older rider in Chelsea Boylan a run for her money in this class, with many holeshots from the gate and Chelsea’s sheer size and power won out on the day with Mikayla managing seconds all day to her. Mikayla was happy with her results and looking forward to the next Open at Castle Hill.

Nikalus was riding well in the 13 Boys class and had completed a 20km+ cross country school race event the day before, so was a little weary but eager to ride well. Nik has managed to understand the tactics in his sport and is not killing himself in motos, but doing what he needs to secure finals berths. Nik rode cleverly in his heats and did exactly what he planned and pulled out a second in his semi behind good mate Andrew Hughes. In the final, Nik had a shocker of a gate, but by the middle of the second straight, had pushed his way to third place and was off after Brock Griffiths and his good mate Andy Hughes. By the last turn Brock and Andy were doing some push and barge of their own and that allowed Nik to close the gap and with Brock pushing Andy high allowed a drag race between Nik and Andy to the stripe, with Nik taking second ahead of Andy by a half a wheel.

In 13 to 14 Boys cruiser, Nik was sitting comfortably in the top 3 each moto allowing himself a good gate draw for the final. In the final he got a great gate and pushed himself in to second by the first corner and from there took off in pursuit of the older rider in Zac McDonald. Nik finished behind Zac but ahead of rival Daniel Morris who has been riding well in recent events. Nik was very happy with his second spot and like Mikayla looking forward now to Castle Hill Open and then the NSW Titles.

Josh chose only to ride 16 boys on the day and like Nik had ridden a 20km+ Cross Country event the day before for his school at Stromlo. Josh has recently found some form and under a new training program with Coach Adam Carey and has been taking his riding very seriously. Josh found himself up against young gun in Blake Moore who is an amazingly talented rider in this class and was looking forward to seeing how well he did against him. Josh and Blake were riding well and Josh kept Blake close at hand and narrowed the margin Blake had over him in recent years. These are encouraging signs for Josh who is really enjoying riding his ONE bike loaded with Snap and Alius goodies! Josh managed to secure three thirds behind Blake in the motos and come the final saved his worst gate til last, making the final harder than it needed to be. Blake took off and never looked like being caught. Josh gathered himself up and went off after him. By the stripe Blake took it away with josh in a comfortable second.

Justin had decided to come and have a ride in the 12 boys class. Justin has been doing a lot of riding and work at the rebuild of his home track at the Blue Mountains and it was great to see him riding again in a decent size open event. This kid is a freak, his effortless style and amazing power is not looking like being challenged. Justin dominated the 12 Boys class with wins in each heat and his semi. In the final Justin took off and never looked like being challenged. This kid is bound to be placing another first place trophy on the mantel at home this year after the NSW State Titles.

On a whole, the Team did well and look like they are peaking at the right time for the upcoming State Titles. With amazing ONE Bikes under them fitted with amazing SNAP and Alius gear from A-Team Distro and other goodies from ECI, these amazing machines and super talented kids are doing what they love best, riding with friends on the best gear in our sport today.

Once again the kids would like to thank their manager Shane Jenkins, ECI and Scott Hand for their ongoing belief in the kids and their generous support. Bring on the NSW State Titles!

09/09 Morphine Crews Leaves its Mark on the Last NBL Grands and Leaves with a National title

Morphine press release

The last ever NBL Grands in Lousiville, KY had some epic racing as expected. Everyone wanted to leave their mark since the weekend would mark the end of the NBL.  The racing was intense and the Morphine Industries squad didn’t let the fans , the sponsors or the team down.  The boys put a ton of hot laps down, and one national #1 title to end the weekend  anf close the book on the NBL.

AA Elite Pro – Mike Kapes came to Lousiville ready to tear it up.  He showed great form in the qualifying rounds with moto wins, showing that he’s a threat in the AA class. Unfortunately some semi mishaps kept Money Mike out of the main event.

A Pro – Jason LaRev also showed up looking like he’s been putting some work in the past few months, with strong first straights and solid laps around the track.  He easily went to the semi’s with a moto win and two top 3 finishes. Semi time, the pressure got to him and he ended up with a 5th.

Vet Pro – Tim Dinger made his debut coming back from a meniscus injury and orthoscopic surgery. However by the looks of his riding you would have never guess he had been injured for a few months. In typical Dinger fashion he was seen in front of the pack every lap throwing down x-ups in every possible spot he could throw one.  He ended the weekend with two solid 4th place finishes in a very tough Vet Pro class.

The wild child Damian Cherepko (17 -18 Expert) showed up to the Grands with a title to defend, his smooth riding and awesome skills easily put him in the 17-18x main event. Main event time, Damian had a great start going into the first turn, there was some bows being thrown and Damian came out in the 3 spot where he stylishly crossed the white line.  Rackin’ up a very solid podium finish in a super stacked class.

The newest edition the Morphine Crew, Jared ‘Doc’ Johnson (15 Expert), came with something to prove with a new ride and a new hype.  Jared won every lap throughout the two days of racing at the NBL Grands. With the huge main event win in the stacked 15x class, he received the last ever National #1 title the NBL will give out. Congrats Jared on the amazing season. We’re proud to have you on the Squad.

The Air Dog Richie Dey (12 Expert) had a phenomenal weekend, looking super strong on the track and stylish as always, he aired his way to a 2nd on 20 inch, which put him National #3, a 4th on cruiser with a National #2 plate.

Keep a look out for the Morphine Industries boys in Portage, IN next weekend and Chula Vista at the end of the month and the Disney Cup coming up in October in Orlando Fla.

We would like to give a huge thanks to our sponsors: Haro Bikes, Fly Racing, DK forks, Hawk, Black Crown plates, Tioga tires.

Without you guys we couldn’t do it.  We would just be a bunch of fast guys riding beach cruisers.

08/09 Goldcross Cycles BSX: New Partner CVP

by bmxultra.com

BSX (short for Bicycle Supercross, and is often referred to as Backyard Supercross) is a Royal Children’s Hospital fund raiser. It will be on again on Monday January 16, 2012 (during Track Attack). It will be the seventh running of the one on one backyard BMX race. BSX is the longest running event of it’s kind in the world and draws a large number of competitors from around Australia. The event has pulled a few international visitors and a number of Olympians.

New Bronze Partner: CVP (Custom Vehicle Painting)

We’d like to welcome CVP (Custom Vehicle Painting) as a Bronze Partner for BSX2012

Chris from CVP has been a supporter of BSX for many years now, donating a custom frame paint job each year. This year he has stepped it up a little and donated the following

  • custom paint job for frame and forks to the value of $250
  • custom paint job for helmet with a $180 value

We’d like to thank Chris and CVP for their generous donation and their ongoing support.

To make sure you are in the running to win make sure you don’t miss the Goldcross Cycles BSX Monday January 16, 2012.

01/09 Supercross BMX 2012 ENVY

Supercross BMX press release
It has been 3 years since we introduced the ENVY and over the years it has proven itself as one of the leaders in BMX race Frames. It is light, stiff, strong, and is available in a ton of different color and custom anodize options.

Well we here at Supercross are always looking for ways to improve on our products, when we say we want them to be the best, we mean it, we want them to be the best at all costs. So we started asking the team riders what changes they would make to the ENVY, if there was something different that could be done, what would it be. And typically we ended up with blank faces, everyone loved the ENVY as is. So we decided to dig a little deeper. And after the last year of subtle refinement, we are proud to introduce the new Supercross ENVY for 2012.

ENVYWhiteProXL

The new ENVY for 2012 has a few small refinements to help make it the best ENVY built yet. The dropouts are now smaller for less weight.

2012ENVYdropouts

We also changed the seatstay brace from a round tube to an ovalized tube to allow for a slightly stiffer rear end while still allowing for the compliance of the rear end to allow the second pedal to come around without a dead spot. Making the frame, stiffer and faster.

2012ENVySeatstaybrace

And keeping in the Stiffer and Faster Theme, we ovalized the Seatmast where it meets the BB shell to allow for faster starts with the stiffer BB shell.

2012ENVyseatmast

Now with the frame being stiffer and faster, we needed to help improve the braking to help you slow down when need be, so the cable clip retainers were adjusted on the side of the top tube to allow for cleaner routing of the brake line as it meets the brake noodle.

2012ENVYbrakerouting

We know it is a small detail, but it is the small details that help make the bike faster and make you the best rider you can be.

And the last change to the ENVY for 2012 is the new Graphics.

ENVYBlackPro

The ENVY’s come stock with the SILVER Decal set pictured on the Black frame for some colors and the GOLD Decal set pictured above on the others.

We are also offering the new decals in a few Custom colors so that you can customize your decal colors with your frame colors. This way you are assured that you can make your ENVY look like “your” ENVY.

Stock colors for the 2012 ENVY Frame’s are Gloss Black, Pearl White, Blurple, Platinum Grey, Teal and Mirror Polish. And as always you can do custom anodize and custom powdercoat colors as well.

And the Aftermarket Decal Kit colors are: The Silver, Gold, Cyan Blue, Red, Dark Green and Signature Neon Green Bubba Harris style and Courtney Tomei Signature Purple.

So with all of the custom paint, anodize and sticker options we can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.

The team has already had a few weeks on the new ENVY’s and here is what they have had to say.

“it’s hard to believe a frame as light as the ENVY can feel so stiff out of the gate, it’s like no other bike i’ve ever ridden” – Bubba Harris , 3x ABA #1 Pro

“Smooth, fun, and fast. Along with all the Supercross Parts, this bike should be featured in a luxury car commercial. It’s the best bike I have rode ” – Dani George, Junior Women and current ABA Nag Points Leader

“The Future is here” – Nathan Padilla – 2010 UCI World Champion, 16x
