27/02 Supercross’ new Chopper bars
Supercross BMX Australia press release
I don’t know about you guys, but the name of Supercross’ new Chopper handlebars makes me think of "Easy Rider" style Ape Hangers, and open roads. Translated into BMX terms it’s a name probably more apt to something wide and tall like the 30"x8.5" MASSIVE bars. In fact, at 28" wide and 8.5" tall, the chopper bars are far more practical than they sound. They share the same 11° back sweep and 3° up sweep of the popular Straight 8 bars.
So what makes them practical? There has been a trend for older riders, particularly the pros, to run a ton of spacers under their stems to raise the height of their bars for better gates and general control. With the Chopper bars you could run your handlebars tall and still have your stem lower, reducing the unnecessary stress placed on the forks steerer tube, making your ride safer and the front end of your bike stiffer.
Supercross Chopper Bars are available now in Black, White or Chrome. Check www.supercrossbmx.com.au/dealers for a dealer near you or ask your local bike shop to contact us.

About BSX
BSX (Bicycle Supercross) is one-on-one sprint trails style racing on a backyard track built specifically to test a rider’s skills. The short straights, lofty jumps and tight corners are very intense under race conditions but also fun for competitors and create quite a lot of entertainment for spectators. The event provides a unique experience for the local Victorian riders, as well as the interstate and international visitors during an off day of the Track Attack series. The events primary function is to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. In just five years the event has raised approximately $24,700 which has provided the hospital with new equipment. Funds have been raised through gate takings, raffles, auctions and donations.
About the Royal Children’s Hospital
‘The Royal Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and provides a full range of clinical services and health promotion and prevention programs for infants through to adolescents. Each year the Royal Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of children through our Emergency Department, inpatient admissions and outpatient visits. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation plays a vital role in providing additional funding to support important research projects and purchase state of the art medical equipment to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.
20/02 Sneak Peak: Supercross’ LT-A 20mm through axle fork
by bmxultra.com
It’s only a matter of days before Supercross BMX release their highly anticipated cromo 20mm through axle fork/hub combo. There has been some discussion on vintagebmx.com about a lighter Alloy version of the 20mm through axle forks that Dani George has been running. We managed to get the scoop on these prototype forks.
It will be some time before they are available to the public. The guys and gals over at Supercross are currently putting them through their paces and initial tests indicate that they are stronger than the cromo SLT fork.
Here’s what Supercross say about them:
The LT-A 20mm Race Fork was born out of the SLT 20mm Fork combined with a little bit of ENVY and EASTON Aluminum Technology.
When we designed the SLT 20mm Race Fork we knew it was going to be great, ultra strong, super light, but it was still over kill for some of the lighter riders on the team. I mean let’s face it just because Dani can jump the Supercross Tracks, it doesn’t mean she needs the same strength fork as Bubba does. They are 2 different weights of riders. For Bubba, the 20mm SLT fork is perfect, and at 28 ounces it is nice and light and strong for him, but for a rider like Dani where she is a good 100lbs lighter than Bubba, we knew we could go lighter and still keep all the strength that she needed.
With the LT-A ( Some call it the “Lighter than All”) we wanted to keep the larger tube diameters to keep the strength at the crown to keep the 20mm axle nice and stiff. And using the Taperwall Technology and Heat Treat Processes of the Supercross ENVY Race Frames, we knew we could make the LT-A super light, super strong, super stiff and ready to race.
The Supercross LT-A 20mm Race fork is constructed of full 7005 T-6 Aluminum, and has been given a full post weld heat treatment after welding to take it to it’s maximum strength. The Legs start out at 1 1/4? OD and taper down to 1? at the dropouts.
The steerer tube is 170mm long and the offset is 28mm.
It’s weight? Just 19 oz or 565 grams

15/02 MTBA leading the way
by bmxultra.com
I don’t really like comparing MTB to BMX, I have no real passion for MTB at all, they are fun to ride, but have nothing on a BMX ride. Anyway… what’s wrong with this picture? An industry tent site to display or sell product at the 2012 MTBA Australian Championships is just $250 for 5 days. A similar tent, but a little larger at the Australian BMX Championships is $1,600 for the six days.
I’m sure there are costs to cover, but wouldn’t cheaper tent sites mean more industry support and possibly lead to more products on display and more support for the event. Those crazy mountain bikers seem to have it all worked out.

13/02 Super Model Jessica Hart & Her PK Ripper!
by bmxultra.com
Todd Lyons from SE sent through some links and photos of Aussie Super Model Jessica Hart and her PK Ripper. It’s a part of a series called "Me In My Place" by Esquire Magazine. They say "any publicity is good publicity", but when a super model has a collection of bikes and one of them happens to be a BMX or more specifically a PK Ripper it doesn’t matter if it’s just a trend, or even just a prop, it’s just great to see someone else enjoying their BMX bike. Well it’s neither, she’s got a vintage BMX eBay habbit as a hobbie outside of fashion, and it sounds like she enjoys building them herself. You have to say this much, the girl’s got style.
So here’s what TL sent through:
In case you were wondering exactly how sexy a PK Ripper can be…

08/02 Brisbane to host National BMX Championships
BMX Australia press release
BMX Australia is pleased to announce that the pinnacle of BMX racing in Australia, the National Championships will be held at Brisbane’s Sleeman Sports Complex in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
The Sleeman Sports Complex is home to Australia’s only BMX Supercross Track. The Olympic standard circuit features two start ramps (5m and 8m with an 18/28° sloping angle) with major double-jumps, step ups and a technical rhythm section.
President of BMX Australia, Mr Barry Knight said he was delighted the National Championships would be held at the Sleeman Sports Complex.
“The whole facility is one that is on par with the best BMX venues worldwide,” Mr Knight said.
“We are always looking to lift the standards of our events by ensuring riders have access to challenging tracks and top class facilities. The Sleeman Sports Complex delivers that.
“Naturally Australia’s best riders should be decided on one of Australia’s best tracks; our riders compete to be the best and the winners of the National Championships will exude those qualities when they race.
“I must also recognise the work done by the BMX Queensland, led by its President Bruce Oliver, in securing the event. They have been quite eager to host the National Championships; Queensland based riders should be thrilled to race in their home state for national placings.”
BMX Queensland President, Mr Bruce Oliver, said the three national championship events would be a welcome boost to the region.
“The last BMX Nationals held in south east Queensland were in 1996. These events will attract thousands of riders and their families to the region, with many staying for over a week,” said Oliver.
The agreement brings three national and three state titles to the Sleeman Sports Complex over the next six years.
“We expect that holding so many events on this Olympic standard track will prepare riders and we hope Queensland riders in particular for world class racing especially the Olympics,” said Oliver.
Queensland currently boasts the largest number of riders out of all the Australian states.
“We certainly hope to see more Queenslanders on podiums in the future,” Oliver added.
State Member for Chatsworth Steve Kilburn said it was expected the 2013 event would bring more than 1,100 riders from around Australia to Brisbane for six days of competition from April 30 to May 5.
“BMX is a sport which is racing from strength to strength and it will be great to see Australia’s best riders competing on the country’s best circuit,” Mr Kilburn said.
“With more than 7,000 registered riders across the country and 32 clubs across Queensland, the popularity of BMX continues to grow.
“It’s expected the sport will see another major jump in popularity following the London Olympics later this year where it has been included for only the second time at an Olympic Games.
“With London 2012 just around the corner the track will be put to very good use as elite training squads prepare for the Games over the coming months.
“Having access to a facility like this will enhance riders’ skill levels, help to improve fitness and make them more competitive on the international stage.
“By continuing to fund significant sport and recreation facilities throughout Queensland, we are making it easier for people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle which aligns with our Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland initiative to help Queenslanders become Australia’s healthiest people.”
The Sleeman BMX Supercross Track is part of the Bligh Government’s $15.3 million investment at the Sleeman Sports Complex, the largest single investment at the Complex since its opening. The $4.8 million BMX facility was delivered by the Bligh Government and officially opened in June 2011.

02/02 DK & BOX COMPONENTS TEAMS UP / MARC WILLERS ON DK
DK Bicycles press release
Last week, the staffs of Cycle Group Inc. (CGI) and DK Bicycles spent the day in a rented meeting room in Fullerton finalizing the details of a one-year deal that makes DK the official frame sponsor of Marc Willers and the BOX Components Test Team.
Negotiations with DK started last year, when the company was among a half dozen frame suppliers that approached CGI about sponsorship.
“We’re excited and really looking forward to working with DK. The company has a long history in BMX going back to 1979 and a very strong presence in the sport,” said Toby Henderson, CGI’s founder.
“We were very fortunate to get several offers to sponsor Marc and BOX Components. But in DK we found a strategic partner not only willing, but ready to work with BOX Components as we develop new and innovative BMX products,” he added.
The day after Toby and Bill Danishek, DK Bicycles’ director, agreed in good faith to work together, DK product managers started the process to build Marc a frame.
“All of us are really excited about all the possibilities of working with BOX Components. Toby’s successes as a product designer and innovator are a big part of why we wanted to team up with the brand. It’s also great to have a rider like Marc Willers on a DK frame. We’re looking forward to a long-term relationship,” Bill said.
As it turns out, both companies were on the same product development path. DK began working on a 20-millimeter frame last fall. With BOX, Toby plans to continue developing 20-mil BMX components, which he successfully introduced some 18 months ago. Marc Willers won the 2011 ABA National Number 1 Pro title, 10 ABA Nationals and two Supercross races using Toby’s 20-mil products.
Coincidentally, Marc’s good friend and fellow New Zealander Corey Stafford is DK’s rep in Australia. It was him who urged DK to develop 20-mil frames and components. The deal means DK can focus on building frames and bikes while BOX supplies the 20-mil parts.
“We’re working on a lot of new products and technologies for BMX. We’re very lucky to have a partner like DK that is willing to work with us as we develop our line,” Toby said.
BOX Components also will provide support to the members of DK’s factory team, including Barry Nobles and Tommy Zula, whenever possible.
Marc and the BOX Components team’s other sponsors include Promax, Fly Racing and ODI.
02/02 Barry Nobles joins DK
DK Bicycles press release
Time for big news: DK is proud to announce a new member of the Pro team.
With tons of buzz & talk on the forums, there has been a handful of speculation that Barry Nobles might be riding for DK. The rumors are true. Barry Nobles has found a new home with DK Bicycles in 2012.
“I can’t think of another rider who is a more appropriate pick for the DK race team. Barry reminds me of the good ol’ days when Robbie Miranda and Neal Wood ruled the tracks and trails everywhere. He has the best attitude, tons of moto style, and has always done a really great job representing his sponsors. DK is more of a family than a team, so when a new rider comes aboard it’s usually for the continuation of their career. I’m proud to welcome Barry Nobles to the DK family.” – Trevor Gay, Marketing Manager/TM, DK Bicycles
With DK making its way back into racing, you can expect some more heavy drops coming throughout the year. Look for Barry in the DK pits repping Black & Green this year.
Welcome to the team Barry.

02/02 Bodi Turner cleans up at Bunbury
BMXMAD press release
Congratulations Bodi Turner on winning round 3 & 4 of the UCI Probikx series held last weekend in Perth WA.
Through searing heat and strong winds Bodi was able to win on Saturday without injury.
Again on Sunday the weather was severe. Officials declared the meeting unsafe and
riders were told they will be scored on their time trial results. Bodi ran an awesome time
cementing his first place position for the round.
Well done Bodi.

01/02 Supercross Australia’s Max Cairns Bunbury update
Supercross BMX Australia press release
Max Cairns finished off a big month of January with travelling that saw him in Nerang Queensland, Melbourne Victoria and finished up in Bunbury Western Australia with rounds 3 & 4 of the national Champbikes series.
In round 3 Max finished up with a 5th place in the time trial which he followed up with a 4th in the final.
Round 4 was too windy for racing so the decision was made to determine the placings by time trial results. Max really stepped it up and pulled out the second fastest lap time for his class. Giving him his first podium finish of the series so far.

01/02 team bmxultra.com January update
bmxultra.com press release
The bmxultra.com crew kicked off the year with some big racing in January.
Levi Collins headed up to Nerang to compete against the best riders Australia has to offer. He did an amazing job to make it into the semi finals in AA pro and start off the year with confidence.
The following week the crew gathered at the Track Attack series, 6 races in 10 days and BSX is thrown in there as well.
Levi Collins made 4 of the 6 AA finals at Track Attack, his best finish was a 4th place at round 5, a great effort in a tough field. At BSX Levi is always in the mix, and 2012 looked like it could be his year. He posted the second fastest time, just .03 seconds behind Luke Madill. Unfortunately he’ll have to wait another year after a big upset being knocked out in the first round by James Lautier.
Aaron Rogers competed in just 4 of the Track Attack races but as he progressed through the series he really started to get amongst it, his best results were two third places at the final rounds at Eastfield. Aaron finished 12th in the time trial of the 30+ Open Wheel class at BSX, he was then knocked out in the first round by eventual finalist Paul Tomkinson.
Shane Jenkins showed up for the tough 19-39 cruiser class at round 2 & 3 of Track Attack. Shane only managed to make the one final (at round 2) but was caught up at the back of the field and finished up with 8th. At BSX Shane usually finishes in the top 3 of the 30+ Open Wheel class, but the timed run just wasn’t fast enough in the packed field. The 9th place time trial meant a first round face off with 5 times winner Simon Anderson. Although the odds were stacked against him Jenkins push Anderson the whole way to the line only coming up a few feet short of a BSX upset.
Scooby Guyers drove across from Adelaide for BSX, to be one of the few riders to have competed at every BSX so far. He had a nice finish in the time trial taking 8th overall. He qualified through the first round comfortably, but was knocked out of the event in the second round.
Chase Collins returned to BSX after making the finals the year before. He finished with 12th place in the time trial and qualified through the first round just fine, he faced American Bryce Hocking in the second round where his day also ended.
Dane Pangallo only raced at BSX in January, he made a couple too many mistakes in the time trial and finished 37th, missing the cut for the eliminations, a prime example of how luck can pay a massive part on the day.
The bmxultra.com team is proudly supported by One Bicycles, Supercross BMX, Dirt Designs, Tioga, Elite Cycle Imports, THE, Profile, Sun Ringle.
